what about booth capturing
by Sachin on Jan 22, 2019 10:45 PM

....
firstly you know why cong, mamata and other corrupt politicans are for paper ballot and against EVM .... because with EVM around these parties cannot carry out booth capturing with their goons ... which they did for 6 decades.

How secure are the EVMs?
by DILIP BANERJEE on May 17, 2014 10:46 AM

"In a country that believes in democracy, EVM rigging isn't stealing an election, it's stealing the soul of a nation."
"And that, as the man says, can make bad things happen."
The main problem is the Political Leaders and Pundits are busy with beating drums of democracy.
"Dance of Demoracy" is the right and most appropriate phrase coined by TOI.

indian media should be ashamed of themselves
by shilpy on May 16, 2014 12:47 AM

this article on the _evm tampering_wrt india is a meticulously compiled article by a foreign reporter. it appears in the _huffington post in greater details. what a shocking shame that no indian media, not one among them, is capable of coming even close to such fine work in journalism.
it gives you the chills as to what the_colonialist congressis can do to rob the people of their freedom to choose govt.

Normally not possible
by A on May 15, 2014 11:12 PM  | Hide replies

Nothing is impossible. But this phrase seems to be not true as far as Indian EVMs are concerned. Consider the following:
1. The number of voters in each booth is known to the candidates since a copy of the voters list is given to them.
2.Representatives of each major political party are present in every polling booth during voting. They ensure that the number of votes polled is zero in the EVM for all candidates before voting begins.
3.The representative of the political parties note down who voted and who did not in their copies of voter list during voting. they know total votes polled.
4.At the end of the voting process the voting is closed by pressing the close button on the EVM and it is not possible to add any votes without clearing the existing votes.
5. The voting machine is sealed using paper strips and signatures of the representatives of the political parties are obtained on the seals. The machines are then sealed using wax also. The representatives will be present during the counting and they verify that the all seals are intact and signatures on the paper seals are their own before counting begins.
6.To change anything in the EVM after voting and before counting requires collusion of many officers from different departments which is highly unlikely.

Please have faith in the process and be totally assured about the genuineness and accuracy of the process, have faith in the integrity of the Government institutions and please have faith in our vibrant democracy.

Very good information. Sounds like the process is already pretty good but nevertheless there should always be an eye to make it safer...in electronic world security threats keeps changing and so the protection mechanism also have to evolve.

True Sameer. If the election results are "changed" due EVM rigging, the country could be in a serious trouble. Majority of our people who have voted for BJP will not accept rigged results. Especially after all media showing exit polls with similar results. Culprits will face tough situation.

Congress will rule ever the country
by sudev jos on May 15, 2014 04:12 PM  | Hide replies

Is this the reason that congress leaders are soooo confident of their victory in this election??? If that is true, then what is the use of being the largest democracy in the world??

the system should be linked to adhar or voter id card with unique number sms to be put while voting on line from home reducing election cost and booth capturing chances. number of booths can thus be reduced and more security provided.

Adhaar, for your information, is not a proof of Indian citizenship. Only Indian citizen can vote.

Exit polls also should be conducted by using EVMs so that both will always match and nobody will blame EVM tampering ever.
