Poor Achuthanandan!
by Sasidharan Nair on Mar 29, 2014 04:42 AM  | Hide replies

All is not going well with him, of his late hours! His change of strategy in the matter of TPC and other killings, has brought down his public image greatly. What has he got to say about Chinese occupation of large part of Indian territory, That party that deceitfully helped UPA out from falling in parliament, the deforestation and land grabbing aided by kerala congress, the forgotten cases of Santosh Madhavan and others lying in cold storage, the big scams involving leading communist leaders and so many for that matter. He doesn't say a word against the mafias within his own party , why? There are quite a large number of millionaire-leaders in his party; though he is not the one, who are living their royal lives, quite contrary to the principles of Communist ideology, but no comments, why? If he claims to be a fair communist, he should deal with all such bad facets of his own party, as well. Otherwise, he just remains a leader as any other cheap ones are aplenty today! At least people did not expect him, as a true leader, to have deserted Rama, after showing full sympathy and concern initially!

VS has allowed himself to be coerced into changing his stance on TPC's murder, true.

But he has not changed his stance on some things that are immensely more important for commoners than the murder of TPC.

And these things are 1) Wetland protection act that he piloted into law when he was CM - he had to face stiff resistance from his own partymen for enacting this law. Now, the current CM of Kerala is trying his best to bring amendments to this law and effectively sabotage it.

2) Coastal Regulation Zone laws of the centre and the state - here too, VS had remained steadfast when he was CM not to allow the land mafia to swallow up more chunks of environmentally fragile land and which the current CM is trying hard to do.

3) Strengthening of public services such as education, healthcare, transport, water supply, PDS, etc. During the VS regime, budget allocations for these services had been steadily rising each year and the results could be very noticeably seen in the years 2010 and 2011 particularly in the services of govt. schools and the KSRTC. With the advent of the UDF govt., there has been a steady roll back of allocations and sanctions for these services. KSRTC has now declined so badly that it is on the verge of being closed down.

4) Strengthening of state PSUs. Of the 33 kerala state PSUs, the VS regime's report card in 2011 reads - 28 profit making (including record profit and turnover for the biggest company - KMML), 3 break even and only 2 reporting

losses. This contrasted very vividly with the situation in 2006 (end of the previous UDF govt.) when 21 PSUs reported losses. The most spectacular turnaround during the VS regime was that of the KSRTC.

5) Kerala was ranked no. 1 in the Transparency International's Corruption perception index among Indian states (cleanest) every year during the VS regime. Kerala was ranked no. 1 in 2013 too. However, the lead enjoyed by Kerala over the next cleanest state was much higher during the VS years.

6) VS has remained steadfast in his mission to oppose any attempt anywhere to undermine the people's interests. He has strongly opposed the construction of the Aranmula airport after it became clear that paddy fields would be levelled for the purpose. He is still the most powerful political ally of the anti-Aranmula airport lobby that is constituted of the environmentalists.

No, VS has not changed his stance on any of these crtically important issues. Neither will he ever.

There was no religion in Kerala before MarThoma visisted Kerala.

Similarly, there was no Islam before Arabs entered Kerala.

That is only a belief among the syxrian chrixztians of Kerala.

There is no historical evidence (neither literary nor archealogical) that he came to Kerala.

The first historically established contact with chrixztianity for Kerala was when a person known today as Knayi Thomman reached Kerala around 324 CE.
