We have to have two devices...

one working on AC and other on DC power.
His basic idea is good but in practice we yet to see.one has to buy DC fan, DC TV, ofcourse there are DC worable LED's.
Solar penel not yet so cheap enery sorces.

Both Central and State governments should focus on this creative thinking. Even if 1 million homes, in the 1st phase, are going to deploy this methodology, it is a good volume for production. The cost of production of these DC based parts and Solar equipment should come down at this volume which can be passed on to customer. More over governments can be generous in giving subsidy. These measures will automatically enhance number of takers for these equipment.

This is certainly thought provoking and if proved right will do wonders to power generation in our country.

Long back we had dc motors and appliances in houses. Then we switched over to AC because of transmission loss, safety and size of the dc motors being very big. There are plenty of advantages in AC machines compared to DC machines. But let us give it a try. It is not possible to change the design of gadgets unless international players take interest in this. Because they only can reach the quantity required for mass production keeping the cost under affordable levels because the world market is in their hands.

If the safety measures are addressed for such a connection & if they can present a sustainable model in the 4 states they are presently targeting, then hopefully the model will find takers in many more villages, educational institutions & industries. If indeed the combination of solar & DC with the said investment can keep the basic necessities running , then it could emerge as a game-changer. Kudos to them for coming up with a model to challenge the crisis.

And of course farms, as they said. If irrigation facilities can be made cost-effective & agricultural output can be increased, then they can affect the whole growth cycle positively. If their experiment succeeds, then it may probably be among one of the first initiatives where the whole country can benefit from the work of IIT. I'd very much like them to succeed.

Our useless govt. must stop wasting money for giving freebies and investing money for producing more electricity and creating awareness about wasting electricity. Otherwise nothing will change.

Shriman Jhunjhunwala Saheb,

(1) DC current gives lots of in all audia devices like radios, transistors,t.vs etc.
(2) The shock of a DC is much severe than that of an AC.DC shocks results in death many a times.

This is just for your comments.

This was a century more debate between Tesla (AC) versus Edison (DC. Guess who won that.

Shock from DC may be more severe than AC due to their non-alternating nature , but we will have to keep in mind the amplitude as well as they have talked about only 48 volts here. From what I know, 300 mA for 1 sec is fatal. But if the resistance used is standard resistance, prima facie it doesn't seem like the current being generated is that risky.

INDIAN MENTALITY
by Anand sodo on Jun 14, 2014 02:49 PM

The Main Root of all the Problems in India is that - we always want and wish 'others' should 'Adjust'.... while we ourselves can live in luxury!.
We just DO NOT want to work - we believe in Rationing -The Mother of all Corruption!
Learn to live life - KINGSIZE! - Work for it - Don't BEG, Don't Ration things, Don't Adjust for every small thing in life.
The ONLY solution is PRODUCE more Electricity - Yes Solar Panels ARE a good way to do so ...Provided The Government comes up with a humanly clear and positive policy and the People of India STOP thinking about "I" "ME" and "MYSELF" .... and Install as many Solar Panels as Possible within their premises at their own Cost and the Government allows them to SELL their Production directly into the GRID and ofcourse keep buying their actual needs from the power Boards....
