NGOs good , bad and ugly!
by raman govindan on Jun 13, 2014 10:00 AM

to grow on one's own strength is OK. but the requirement of international political economy needs for one to grow faster than the adversary or competitor! India has several nations in that category! in case it cannot be achieved in straight forward manner, sabotaging the adversary's economy by hook or crook is being adopted!

NGOs come handy in that respect! not all of them are bad, but few cano severe damage to our growth! just the same manner the NGOs sully & damage nation, privilege should be given to those affected by them to return in kind!

Environment impact assessment
by Vasant Patil on Jun 13, 2014 09:31 AM

It is high time people like Jairam stop lecturing now as minister he did not adopt science based risk assessment approach to any projects under his ministry resulting in backlog . He even tinkered with established federal / central process by taking away approval powers of central government bodies under environment ministry . It is high time new government takes pragmatic , proactive approach by following globally accepted science based risk assessment approach on all project approvals with single set of rules for all stake holders . Give some reasonable time to the new political set up at centre.

Jayaram defend Greenpeace
by P S SHAH on Jun 13, 2014 09:02 AM  | Hide replies

The activities of NGOS getting large foreign funds should be monitored by the government and they should be brought under the right of information act so that general public can also monitor and track their activites. The NGOs like Greenpeace are here to hamper the growth of the nation. Who are they to say that government should import palm oil from some countries ? What authority they have to say that India can not have any hydel power, thermal power or nuclear project for electricity when the people are suffering due to acute shortage of electricity ? Why they suddenly shift their attention from violence in Kashmir valley to the north east region of the country ? I had seen the debate show of Arnab Goswamy for two days and found that both the representative of the Greenpeace had no reply to justify their activities at all. Jayram Ramesh should not defend such NGOs with doubltful integrity. Why such people are allowed to carry out their activities freely in this country ? Who is Megha Patkar to take objection against raising of hight of Sardar Sarovar dam ? She has already caused nation and its people a great loss and inconvenience by her agitation without realsising the fact that what are the benefits of Sardar Sarovar project. Such person suspicious of working under direction of foreign countries who dont like India to prosper should be treated suitably by the government in the interest of nation and its people.

Hats off to your comments Mr.Shah. In my opinion most the NGO should immediately be banned. Day by day it is getting mushroomed in every part of India. Did anybody benefit from their activities. They are being paid by Foreign countries to stop the developmental work in India through this so called paid NGOs and some vested interest in India also supporting them. Jayaram has no business in giving big lecture.

Jayaram Ramesh should respect the findings of detailed intelligence report submitted during their rule and should not have defended NGO. The other other NGO run by Tista Setalvad only concentrate only on 2002 Gujarat riots and dont find anything wrong with hundreds or riots and violation of human rights in other states like Kashmir, UP, Bihar etc.

capturing co2 from flue gas
by shilpy on Jun 13, 2014 02:06 AM

the major threat to global warming comes from the millions of tons of co2 flue gases pumped into the atmosphere by fossil fuel using power plants. this does not have to be so. technologies are easily available for the capture of co2 and using it for profitable purposes.
the united nations and usa and other rich nations have the responsibility to make this co2 capture equipments made available to all nations by creating a special fund for it which would run into a few hundred millions. this would be the cheapest solution because it will stop it at the source. hope namo takes the initiative when he is over at the g20.

Ture face of some NGO's
by srnvs san on Jun 13, 2014 01:42 AM

1. Some of the NGO's are doing an excellent job.

2. Some of the NGO's are spreading venom and obstructing India's growth.

3. How come America's nuclear energy is better than Russia's?

4. Foreign countries are resorting to anti-India activities through NGO's.
either it is pink revolution or the other, these are funded by foreign countries to stop the growth.

5. Fake case was charged against Nambiar (ISRO). Who is behind all these?
