KAL007 downing should be regarded as a consequence of pilot error on two counts: first he flew off course and deep into the Soviet airspace. Second: he didn't respond to the Soviet communications who tried REPEATEDLY to establish contact. The US anti propaganda was quite VOCIFEROUS, however. Many Americans still hold that the KAL007 was the beginning of the end for the Soviet Union. On the contrary, the IR655 episode, wherein the fault lay 100% with the Americans, did nothing to cramp their style.
What the article doesn't point out is the significant differences in the circumstances that led to the shootings of KAL007 and IR655. The loss of innocent human lives in both these cases is highly regrettable, however. The S. Korean flight had veered off course and had penetrated DEEP into the Soviet Union and had passed close to some sensitive strategic installations of the Soviet Union. The SU-15s that tried to intercept KAL007 repeatedly tried to establish communication with the KAL pilot who chose not to respond. The plane was shot down only when it was about to leave the Soviet airspace. It's unlikely that the fighter pilot would have shot the airliner had he known that it was a civilian flight that had STRAYED into the Soviet Airspace. You can't blame the Soviets for being security conscious. Didn't India scramble its fighters recently when Turkish planes entered the Indian airspace?
Closer home, in 1965, a passenger plane carrying the then Guj CM Balwantrai Mehta and family was shot down by a Pak Sabre Jet fighter in the Rann of Kutch. This happened AFTER the declaration of ceasefire and well within the Indian airspace. No prizes for guessing that both the plane and the missile were supplied to Pak by US on FREE-OF-CHARGE basis.
Gunning down civilian plain is instinctive.and most of the population behaves instinctively in different uniform in different names religion and cast forgetting humanity. some are more fanatic and blind too and most of that race are terrorist too because their instincts are not sublimated and there is no sane thinking some are paid terrorists created by politicians, some are pseudo secularist use terrorism for their mean goals and they hire terrorists
