Why was my message deleted? There was not a single objectionable word or thought in it. I only stated, in plain words, the factual position regarding I-T dept's e-filing facilities. What is wrong with REDIFF?
After receiving my TDS certificates (Form 16) in the first week of June (according to the Rules, it should have been given to me by 30 April, but NO PAYING OFFICE EVER DOES IT BEFORE 30 MAY, and the I-T DEPT DOES NOT PUNISH THEM) I tried to pay "Self-Assessent Tax" ON LINE. I could not, because all the three Internet browsers that I have gave warning that the CBDT's site did not have a valid security certificate, and my Bank's Internet banking facility would not allow me to make the payment. I had to use the printed "challan" form and pay the tax personally at my bank. It took ten days for the payment to appear in the Tax Credit (Form 26AS) in the I-T dept's web site. Thereby, I had to wait till then for filing my "Return". I proceeded to download the "ITR utility", and was surprised to learn that it required Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.7 to be installed on my computer. Now, JRE has been accused of having a number of very serious security holes, and it has been abandoned by Microsoft, for example. One just wonders why I-T dept should use it and also force taxpayers to use it. This is the state of affairs of e-filing, in the I-T department. And now NIC is coming up with this thing which is even more awful. The Govt of India has to do something on a war footing to protect the taxpayer. If the problem has been due to anyone's negligence or incompetence, they should be hauled up.
