Jains who are criticizing this do not understand the importance of this. For the most part, we are a prosperous community, but that said, there are economically backward sections --- which can get some marginal benefits. Second, this promotes Jain learning by way of enabling a common man to open Jain institutions. Third, it provides protections and recourse mechanisms that all minorities should get. Remember, everything is fine until it is fine, but then there are stray incidents that send shock waves through the entire community. Think stoning of jain monks in a small town in Tamil Nadu a few years back.
This is NOT reservations in educational institutions or anything similar that most people tend to think of. As such, there are NO freebies that the whole community can avail!!

There are moe backward classes then the Jain backward classes. Should not Rahul have considered them first? You gous say u r backward if you can't afford smart phones. Some ppl can't afford to eat brother--think of that!

Please read correctly AND fully first, construct proper arguments and then reply. I listed 3 crisp reasons why this is important. You cherry picked only one to make your case. But, lets talk about that. The marginal benefits are limited to scholarships to students who live below the poverty line. Definition of poverty line is standardized -- it doesnt change for Jains or any other set of people. So, smartphone or not, someone below BPL will be defined as below BPL. And it's not my or your definition; it's defined by the govt of India whether you and I like it or not.
Around 25 to 30% of the jain community need the benefits of minority scheme, Especially for the education purpose. This matter was pending since so many years. Now that they have given consent, it smells fishy & we doubt are they really concerned or is it only a opportunistic decision. How does Rediff consider whole Jain community as prosperous. Every community consist of economically weaker sections. They will get the benefits of such schemes.
In 1932 British recommended separate states for BC/SC/ST/FC. And "others" should live on H1B type visa in those separate states as per "Communal Award".

Sir. I salute you. We need people like you. These corrupt fellows do not know anything other than appeasement for getting votes. Divide, rule and loot.
