Regarding statistics from India regarding any thing from tiger count to RTA one has to take it with a pinch of salt.We are very poor in keeping records and giving proper statistics.25% of Indians eat what 100 would have hence the projection is tip of the ice berg.

In case of India the best thing is that the percentage of under nourished and over eaters is the same, so if the overfed are sensitised, the under nourished can be fed.

Indians dont throw food like westerners and chinese. In China throwing food is a custom when u go to restaurants. If u dont order more food / consume all the food on any of the plate, it is considered you are not a well to do person.

It is shoking people under nourished in India is only 15%. Must be govt. data. There are poors in India who consume only previous day's rice with salt so that they can get enough energy to live next day. Have heard condition. There are people in India who drink to sleep.

Though, have heard condition of many African countries is worse.

Climate and prosperity would be another aspect.

by sameer AM on Jan 07, 2015 11:46 AM  | Hide replies

As is is widely accepted that the ALCOHOL consumption is more in these countries, which will naturally result in more hunger that leads to excess eating habit.

Its an evil sign to eat more as we indian believes more in spirituality rather than in luxury

What you eat should be healthy. Our food is mostly oily and salty and chilly.

But USA says the opposite!
by King Kong on Jan 06, 2015 04:52 PM

But in 2013, there was a very hyped news about USA blaming the third world countries like India (also China), is one among the few, which consumes the most natural resources for food! Remember?

% of people living in poverty and not food intake . If you compare food intake by means of rich and poor then India is a balanced state where total rich =total poor intake.

The details provided by FAO is not clear. Excess is on the basis of quantity or on the basis of calories consumed?

Correct. I read the FAO report and they have not given this detail. They just mentioned excess as compared to the energy requirement of that particular person
