This Government sympathizes more with NRIs who fleed this Country selfishly in pursuit of high scale ambitions. And these NRIs who deserted this Country thereby causing a brain drain ironically preach patriotism to locals and also try to create a favourable opinion on the one they fancy during elections advising the locals to toe their line for the good of this Country. And during Cricket matches played between their Country of choice and country of origin, they turn traitors to their own mother land where they earn a living and turn admirers for their erstwhile home land. These are the credentials of an NRI and no wonder this Government is bent upon appeasing them.
A non-resident Indian (NRI) is a citizen of India who holds an Indian passport and has temporarily emigrated to another country for six months or more for employment, residence, education or any other purpose.

It is not necessary that they are residing abroad temporarily. Many have temporary residence permits which can be for periods upto 5 years and there are many who practically stay abroad permanently while holding Indian citizenship.

no need of voting rights for NRI, why bring votes in every possible way, how silly of this minister? Smriti and Sushma, both delivered nothing afyer came to power. is anybody working in BJP I wonder, all are touring champion from state to state and nation to nation, that is the work they do, all at expense of people money.

Can any body tell what is the full form of NRI. It shows they have accept citizenship of where they are living and how they have voting right. When they have accept citizenship they they are voter of particular country where they are living how Foreign Minister mis lead to the NRI. Please clarify Madam. When they vote in India then they re bitrayal to their country where they have recieved citizenship. Please clarify Madam

Giving voting rights to PIOs who have citizenship of foreign countries is atrocious. Giving voting rights to people who have citizenship of India is fine but let them come to India to exercise it. there is no need to make special arrangements for them to vote for Indian elections even when they are residing abroad. Of course, this logic does not apply to government employees who are residing abroad due to compulsions of their job.

Why does the logic apply to some Indians just becoz they are in govt?
Re: makes no sense..
by Vijay Sahani on Dec 23, 2014 12:22 PM
Exactly. People who have no stake in the governance of India should not be given any voting right.
BJP seems to be doing it because it's following amongst NRIs is good. It's a very short sighted policy of BJP.

then why Indians like you are being benefitted by 70 Billion USD every year as forex remitted by these NRIs ?
Re: Re: Re: makes no sense..
by Bomb Bhole on Dec 23, 2014 01:13 PM
and also why not NRIs shall have the voting rights? do you think they are not concerned for the country just because they are outside the country?

they are not giving this free hand. this amount they are investing in share market for getting profit. If take back this money our Indian share market will collepse and common man can invest in share market. they are not doing any mercy to indian govt and no body will do. Please study thoroughly and comments.

Wow..so NRIs are remitting to benefit "Indians like him"??! NRIs invest because they get better and safe returns here. If Timbuktu gives that they would invest it there.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: makes no sense..

Where is the 'shortsightedness' here? My point is that NRIs are not investing here out of love for the country but for the returns, safety and for the sake of their own dependents. There isnt any need to put on a cloak of selflessness. Difficult?
Re: Re: Re: makes no sense..
by AK on Dec 23, 2014 04:56 PM
And in fact the 'investment' by NRIs here in real estate is driving housing away from the reaches of ordinary people residing here in India.

Tendulkar is not ordinary. Thousands of flat owners in Mumbai are not ordinary. Are they?

Welcome the official defender. Thats the whole point - they are no more accessible to the middle class. NRIs act add thousands of Tendulkars into the market.

funniest thing is that the owner of all these voices will change the shores at the very first opportunity. until then they will burn out of jealousy
and pls don't say, staying in India proves you a better Indian than who are staying outside.
