Yes, Muslims are comfortable with nationalism and democracy but, only as long as their population DENSITY is less than 40%. But once they increase that number, then they are more comfortable to make and live in Islamic republic like their own territories; examples are J & K, Hyderabad old city etc.
Regarding West, I would say they are more successful due to their innovation, technology etc. due to which the world has benefited all over. Otherwise, imagine, we would have still traveling on horses, bullock-carts; sending messages through human messenger or birds which reaches in days instead of in seconds through e-mails now.

Pls understand that there are no minorities in PAK. PAK is filled only with M's living in 1000% Harmony...
