They asked to validate the deal 6 months back ... in that span they spent 7000cr to knock of the 3600cr deal ... haha ... and we pay them tax .. :).. we are in good hands ...
The present system of buying equipment is too cumbersome, and the delay sin finalising a order ends up in increased costs. This has to be brought under control, and a time frame based procurement schedule put in place to ensure that the troops get what they want when they want, till we get to manufacture better stuff as replacements.

Procurement of even Furniture in Govt Organisations, from Indian manufacturers, takes ages. No wonder if 3600 Crores Guns takes decades. Whenever there is high value overseas or even Indian procurement, all the people involved will be waiting for their share of pie. This spoils the whole plan itself. The R&B and PWD spending is all standardised and percentages are predetarmined tbough works delayed which is another part of the story on account of payments from the contractors for releasing bills etc.

Very true, what we need is Guns even if it means some crores in kickbacks and paybacks to middlemen. Else we will never get the guns in the next 25 years.
Bofors's pay back was at the order of some 80 crores. Look what we have lost in the last 25 years? The same guns were the back bone of Kargil War.

We would have certainly spent more than the total cost of Bofors, on the investigation & court cases but ultimately, Quatrochi has successfully escaped, courtesy, usual Indian delays, even in filing cases.

Tamilians with triple supply of Idli, Vada and Sambar
Dont americans know that defence deals need a cut ,in India. What If they delayed it.Delays dont have a COST IN iNDIA. OUR SYSTEM DOESNT RECOGNISE COST oVERRUNS. eVEN IF THE $ RATE WAS 55Rs AT THE TIME OF DEAL AND NOW ITS 60rs
The Bofors blue print with full know how is available with MOD, since last 45years.. why.. becoz the Previous Govt with its ten thousand scams does not allow import sustitution..!!! Same has been the case with our Tetra Czek all terrain trucks Price 24 lacs but being imported through UK based indian agents at Rs.91.Lacs. We dont need Howitzers with extra long range-40 km. What we need is big profectile-155mm caliber howitzer with medium range of say 25-30 km range , enough to pulverize our opponents from safe distance.. And no no to agents only by direct deal.. Ou industrial giants Tata and Bajaj,L&T, Kirsoskars etc are raring to enter the defence manufacturing..but but the old MOD controlled by previous Govt.thought they were threat to our security or to their money laundering activity.. New NaMo Govt will no doubt redress all these anti national activies..

Very well said. It is time we stop repeating the mistake we did with East India Company.

Many nation actively discourage weapon import. In fact, Russian has law that makes import of any weapon illegal. Its better to have your own weapons, that you can mass produce, than rely on imported weapons that can be stopped at the whim of the exporters mood. Let us not forget that no nation can ever hope to develop its own weapons unless its military is forced to buy home-made ones. As far the quality of imported weapons, countless brave sons of mother Indian have needlessly died in Mig 21 the flying coffins. So to reject this Howitzer is good step.

Sorry. No collaboration. A country which can send mission to Mars can manufacture a howitzer gun as well.
Re: Re: US is not dependable.....

What is pathetic nonsense about collaboration, just a polite term for relying in others' know how and paying through the nose. As you rightly said a nation of 1200million that can develop tech to make satellites, rockets and develop sophisticated software should be able to organise team of skilled men and women to make any weapon system. What is lacking is organization, perseverance and support and guidance from the ruling elite.
At-least if you cannot engineer, learn to reverse-engineer by taking things apart.
We have so many engineering colleges and institutions why can we not build our own howitzers which are accurate and which can lay down a heavy curtain of fire.
It is a shame that so much of the tax-payers money is being spent on howitzers.
Even the Bofors Howitzers cost the tax-payers a lot.
We need to focus on gaining expertise in building Howitzers, Mortars, weapon-systems, Submarines and Tanks.
USA may not be keen to sell Howitzers to India otherwise it would sell at price of 2010. It can also sell machinery to manufacture those howitzers sine as it plans to stop the production and those machines may sit idle. India can buy Javelin missiles that are lighter and they mar turn out to be more useful although the range is smaller than M777 howitzers. Mean while DRDO mar try to develop lighter Howizers. Modern age needs better missiles rather than things like howitzers.
