Is this a politcal issue?
by Srinivasan Iyer on Aug 17, 2014 01:06 PM  | Hide replies

It is unfortunate that the comments are being made to politicise a matter of defence preparedness. It ois not Congress vs BJP but what is good for the country.

Is military strength the best defence?
by Srinivasan Iyer on Aug 17, 2014 12:51 PM

It is right to be prepared with equipment with latest technical advantages. But, we were strong till 1998 militarily and could take on any war against us on the ground and in the air. We did a test in Pokhran to show our military strength. But entered into a race with our neighbours also developed their nuclear arsenal and today the deterrence we wanted has only resulted in limiting our our options. A deterrence is not necessarily a strength. In 1971 when NIxon brought the sixth fleet near our country, he was repulsed by our just cause and not by our military strength! The US has always prided on their military strength and used it against poor nations. Today they have realised their folly and are withdrawing where ever they can. They have taken decisions based on economic necessity to protect their interests in the Middle East. It is a complicated world not measured by one's military strength.

Why are you comparing India with a third class country like Pakistan?
