Agriculture sector was neglected from past 5-6 decades in India
by tolerant india on Jun 07, 2017 06:45 PM

Agriculture is backbone of India, Govt should focus on villages to improve agriculture sector by implementing new initiatives. Currently, new technologies being used in agriculture sector is not affordable to each & every formers in India. Hence Govt. should take some initiatives in the area of automation to reduce traditional agricultural methodologies. Agriculture sector was neglected from past 5-6 decades that’s the reason the situation of our farmers is like this, increasing suicide cases, crop losses etc. govt. should help formers by giving subsides and implementing new initiatives.

Misinterpretation and blotch-up data....
by Biswajyoti Borkakoty on Apr 26, 2015 02:25 AM

The whole issue of farmer's suicide is incorrectly interpreted. In India, annually around 135,000 people commit suicide and of which 16000 are farmers... and its 11.8% of total suicides in the country, however around 60% of India's population are in farming and if the rate of suicide is uniform across the general population... the suicide deaths in farmers should be around 81,000 per year and not just 16,000. So, the rate of suicide in farmer's is far less than the national rate. Farmers are committing suicide around the year, in good rains or drought, in profit or loss... so actually the suicides by farmers may be a result of schizophrenia/depressive psychosis/bipolar disorders etc which can affect 1-2 % of the population and aggravated sometimes by crop loss.

Governements are idiots

These are the main reasons
1)Farmers do not get the fair value for their crop.
2)The middlemen are most benefitted from the farmers.
3) Governments support industrialists businessmen only.
4) They do not have education about traditional farming or organic farming, which can yield good results.
5) Governements support realestate, firt it should be banned permanantly, then only all the prices come down.
6) Governments should take an initiative to setup model units in each village about agriculture farming.
7) Government will not give guidance properly about the what crop is in demand time to time
8) Government should setup societies to buy their produces, rather than selling to middlemen.
9) Government should apply crop insurance a must.

Lack of awareness

Why people commit suicide? Psychologists can do some research on this subject. If you take a burden which you cannot carry, you are bound to stumble. So it is important to give proper counselling to farmers and students who take loans for agriculture or higher education. Make them understand the unforeseen situations that may arise later. You hear constant cry for government/banks to write off bad loans or interest. Who is loser? It is the money deposited in the bank by ordinary people being given out as loans and it must be paid back. Government cannot print money to write off all bad loans.

farmer's suicide
by raman govindan on Aug 01, 2014 04:22 PM

Farmers are tradition bound! They spend on marriages, births & deaths of elders! On festive occasions! Men take to drink and spend on alcohol! They invest on their children's education beyond their means, take heavy loans on their meager land holdings and if the children do not turn out successful or they are unable to return the loan, they become despair!

But why the farmers of Maharashtra & Andhra! People from the rest of the country are placed in a similar situation to them! It is to be investigated!

I like late EVR Perilya of Tamilnadu! he advocated & propagated simple marriages! most the top politicians spend 10s of crores on their children's weddings, and i do not think they will force or advocate austerity on the commoners!

whats so new about it

recently a new state was created. it was reported that many students committed suicides for the cause. we all knew that was not the case. so did the leaders. but it was helping the cause and going against anyone who disputed it. so every guy who committed suicide became a martyr. in india no one has time to go in depth of anything. no research . hearsay is best source of info to them. yet they talk as though they are authorities on the subject.
