She is a leader of the Bengali Masses
by nirmalya thakurta on Apr 29, 2014 07:58 PM  | Hide replies

So she represents the aspirations of the Bengali masses, if that is 'lumpenism', 'thugism' how can you help it. Bengal deserves Mamata and Mamata is made for today's Bengal - if both a re happy with each other (as the election trend for past 5 years show and this 2014 LS also won't be any different), who cares about some city based middle class - they are less than 5% of Bengal populace.

Good if she is doing development. But sorry no good news emerging out of Bengal since she came. Same Dharna, Strike, Political violence. Its your choice to give her another 3 decades like Left. West Bengal was leading economy and now it is way behind BIMARU States also.

Bengal's destiny?
by Rama Ganesh on Apr 29, 2014 07:45 PM  | Hide replies

It's unfortunate that Bengal, one of the most forward states in India, in so far as achieving casteless (or should I say less-caste-conscious state) state is concerned, has had to contend with toothless, inefficient, purposeless state government for over 2 decades. The popular saying amongst Bengalis (not others mind you) that "what Bengal thinks today, the world thinks tomorrow" has turned out to be more the other way round, "what Bengal is today, the rest of India does not want to be that tomorrow"!!!! It is a himalayan tragedy that the state, in spite of eradicating caste consciousness to a large extent, has failed to drive home the advantage. Perhaps, another round of political churning will do this state a world of good. It is ironical that this resource-rich, politically aware state, has remained perpetually backward and its educated populace is forced to look for greener pastures in other states. Let us all pray for a resurgent Bengal that has the potential to produce great leaders and great thinkers to take this country forward.

Dr Anirban Ganguly's column is excellent.
It is very informative and calls a spade a spade.
This is what is required.

I hope the sane people of Bengal will throw out Mamata and her communal govt. during the next elections.

At least people changed 3 decades of communist politics. They will vote her out also if she does not perform. Vote Bank Politics in India is in last phase. You will see change in next general election.

bengal needs to do more, way way more
by shilpy on Apr 29, 2014 07:20 PM

the communal problem of bengal is incredibly enormous, specially after mamta took over. she is working as an agent of some saudi sultanate for all practical purpose. what's troubling is that the_hindus have been long sleeping at the switch. it is just plain_stupid to overstretch the lop-sided congressi style secularism, or be intimidated by it so much as to let it_kill you.
