most of the other countries of south east asia who got liberated along with us, were fortunate not to have a leader of the caliber of Pundit Nehru! he talked his way to the impoverishment of India!they were not preaching panch sheel, non alighnment, anti imperialistic,MNC stance and did ther homework and prospered and they are better than us in several aspects!

alas! we still hail the nehruvian doctrine!

India in the early years had two features:

It was perpetually ready to get into civil war or breakup over its many ancient inherited divisions, and it was important enough to attract direct foreign interference from Developed White Western countries.

Nehru met the first problem by creating neutral topics for people's attention, such as the economy, science, industry, education, and Non Alignment.

The Constituent Assembly met the potential for direct western interference by creating a sophisticated legal document to divert the attention of the western countries, who are very document sensitive.

Hindsight appears to give more options than actually existed in the past.

There is no way that India can defeat the China Pakistan Axis except by aligning closely with Americans. Russians can help India in war material but do not have enough geopolitical clout.

Sovereignty is sheer humbug. It cannot be fired at an attacking enemy, nor eaten, nor sold for much when in a tight corner. It can only be used in silly conversation with naive people.
