UNNECESSARY FUSS ABOUT GAMBLING
by Ravi Sinha on Jun 02, 2013 12:50 AM

I do not see the logic of so much fuss in IPL match fixing and fail to understand why Srinivasan is being hounded. All the politicians want their pound of cake in this booty of the loot. The very concept of IPL matches is based on the vulger display of Black Money. This halla-gulla by the media is being made to cover up much bigger scams which this most corrupt ever UPA govt is engaged in.
There are more serious issues facing the country including the secret dialouge with China. But we Indians do not have time to look into more serious issues.

Convulated Thinking?

Uttam, you don't mind anti-India gangsters bilking ordinary citizens of their money so that the money can be shifted to harm India's interests?

Am I surprised? Not at all. Your article blends in with all other Rediff writings? Whose interest does Rediff serve anyway? Isn't India your home as well? Aren't your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren ... going to live and dies here? Or, are you from the middle east?

The question here is not of betting, the question here is betting while providing inside info so that he can actually win all those bets. Betting itself is not wrong and should definitely be legalized in India. But being the team Chief and giving out insider info to bookies and then placing bets is wrong.

diverting the respurce of police and intelligence from protecting
by Amarendra on May 26, 2013 12:18 PM

it gives me pain to see that all news channels and news papers are full of story about match fixing these days. If any body embezzles the tax payers mpney that should be given attention . government money is deposited by citizen of india through incom tax/, sales tax , excise duty , custom duty , service tax , stamp duty , property tax , municipal tax , toll tax etc . expenditure of this money is planned through central and state govt budget . If this money is embezzled through corruption by anybody then it is theft of money deposited by each and every citizen of india according to the ammount deposited by individual. Therefore , there is utter need to focus on this money only and our police dept , CBI should focus only on this. but these days they are focussing on IPL betting , fixing which is not the money of taxpayers. this is the problem with us indian . If somebody playing game with their money where is the problem. Please do not show any news in media about betting which only diverts the attention on public of main issue to non issue.

by ganesh pillai on May 26, 2013 11:33 AM  | Hide replies

Betting is okay if it helps somebody earn money but without getting into trouble or addicted

But playing in the wrong spirit of game is not at all acceptable, Sri should be banned for life

what about the borad or a captain asking to change the nature of the pitch to suit the team with a view to win? does it not amount to fixing? What about accepting a Paki player who came through a backdoor into one of the teams? What about playing a large number of matches on their home grounds? In a larger sense, all these should also be treated as 'fixing'. A player like Mike Hussy who retired was picked up for a sizeable amount and he played a vital role. Is it not for money? Is it not unethical? After all, auctioning of players and conducting the matches itself is against the spirit of the game. The winner got Rs.10 crores. Players who fail when they play for the country, play 'all out ' in IPL. What for? Money. When 'money' plays the game, blaming a few who make money should not be taken a serious note. is there not 'fixing' in horse racing? If there not the nepotism existing in selection of a team? if there not the role of money in the BCCI elections? Is there not witch hunting in IPL management and BCCI? What happened to Lalit Modi and Jagmohan Dalmia? Law should be the same for all.

by pradeep shetty on May 26, 2013 08:54 AM

some points are true, but dear gambling is not harmful, but long time gambling is really harmful for the gambler and the society..pls tell me u have written of matka etc, what do u know about Matka? have u ever observed the people in matka addas, all were once good ,but bcoz of gambling they lost everything & now they even rob & are ready to do all the unethical things...apart from gambling, habit of daru & drugs are free...also whole india does not bet, so dont blame everyone for the deeds that some do...also dont go into Mahabharat, coz seeing ur example my friend u dont know the reasons behind mahabharat betting...so dont write only for the sake of writing....
