Mancini

Italy quoting the Vienna Convention amounts to the Devil quoting the Bible. The Ambassador gives a solemn undertaking to the Hon'ble Supreme Court, and then says he need not honour it because he is covered by the Vienna Convention which prevents India from acting against him for criminal conspiracy in smuggling two murder accused out of the nation. Great way to smuggle people out.

Italian Ambassador should be arrested for contempt of Court. Can Indian Ambassador do this in Italy. If EU thinks they can do something to India it is a past thing. If they want to do business come here and obey our rules here or else what help these debt ridden countries can give us.

The government should arrest Mancini. This would help spell the beans on all those powers that be in India, who allowed the marines facing a murder charge to go on holiday, then hid the facts from the court that they could cast their votes without going to italy. Once these people in India are exposed then we can break of relations with italy, after all they have more to lose in lucrative defensive deals than we

ironical stance on diplomatic immunity
by Ramesh on Mar 19, 2013 05:14 AM  | Hide replies

All that Italy needs to do is honor the sacred commitment their ambassador has made to Indian Court.

Claiming immunity after approaching the Court implies double-speak on commitment to jurisprudence which even Italian courts will not recognize.

Such pressure tactics is not going to work with India, for it will be interpreted as legal incompetency on the part of Italians.

Indian legal edifice is far bigger than the Italian one, and with considerable depth of experience. Better it is for Italians to comply than desist on specious grounds.

If Italian stand is valid then no Amby will not be able to give any commitment to any court.

The law expects Amby to be the voice of the government and government to lend credence to the voice. Else, he would be speaking only in his personal capacity.
