Having free for all taking INRs outside rule will see this money routed to terror models for funding attacks. This is one of the ways to limit terror fundings. WHY Gulf ? Anybody's guess where most terror funding comes from

You forgot to read -
- NRIs can carry as much foreign exchange they wish & then get it converted here -
this way we get foreign exchange & curtail illicit rupees coming in.
This rule should not harm NRIs, since they can carry the currency of the country they reside in - to the extent they can?

7500 Rs?
by rama bangera on Mar 07, 2013 02:00 PM  | Hide replies

with 7500 Rs, you can get only two packets of Cashew and One whiskey at the Airport. These authorities never traveled internationally it seems. And at Indian Airports Bribes to officials itself is sometime more than 5000 Rs.

Can not u use ATMs to withdraw money at the airport or cards to do purchases? The rule is that you can not pass through customs with more than 7500 rupees. That seems pretty fair.

first the Custom Rule book should be changed, which they are using form 1983. It says once can carry only material/gold etc worth 25000 Rs, if more you have to pay VAT of 25% of the value of the item. With these claims, customs ask for Bribe. Infact they never let you go out if they know you have HARD Cash :P

People can use credit/debit cards to buy things... If people can't bribe at airport, how's that bad?!
Only people with large amount of black money will have problem with this rule and that is good.

transparent clarification
by divine on Mar 07, 2013 01:59 PM  | Hide replies

Very transparent clarification for the travelers to adhere to. This should be clearly displayed in all major international airports and others airports where customs formalities exist, for the benefit of travelers and tourists.

this being the case, what happened to many cases in the past where many indian cine actors and pakistani singers who were detained with heavy US currency and later let off as per advice of MoF. Did the government confiscate the currency and penalised those who brought it. A question should not be pondered to.

forget cine actors, I once saw a tv serial actor passing customs. All officers came near him to say hello and offered help to him with all smiling face. You can imagine for cine actors.
