warning from the nature
by Pooja V on Jun 21, 2013 09:00 AM  | Hide replies

This is nothing but warning from nature itself. If no action is taken now...there will be nothing left. The so called helicopter yatras should be stopped immediately not only here but to all the shrines which are having them now. If these rich buerecrats don't now the meaning praying why should they even visit these shrines just to give away their black money?

George Carlin said it aptly
“I look at it this way… For centuries now, MAN has done everything he can to destroy, defile, and interfere with NATURE: clear-cutting forests, strip-mining mountains, poisoning the atmosphere, over-fishing the oceans, polluting the rivers and lakes, destroying wetlands and aquifers… so when NATURE strikes back, and smacks him on the head and kicks him in the nuts, I enjoy that. I have absolutely no sympathy for such human beings whatsoever. None. And no matter what kind of problem such humans are facing, whether it’s natural or man-made, I always hope it gets worse.”

Uttaranchal, disaster

This time fine, government footing the bill, paying out compensations etc.
In future any one wishes to visit these pilgrim places (which are disaster in them self any way) should have an insurance against any mishap, such accidents, getting stuck in floods and landslides etc, their medical expenses.
No insurance to pay for your rescue (Which is ones own risk and making) then don't expect for the rescue teams to put their lives at risk and government to pay for the disaster which can be avoided by not visiting places to worship a lump of ice etc.
One goes and get stuck then one pays for rescue as well.

Government is not paying from its pocket. Government is paying out of taxes paid by these very citizens.

Will you also write a comment about the free subsidy given to pilgrims going to a faraway country year after year, by the thousands?

First ask the government to retrieve the 150000 crores eaten by the government in one single scam, before you start preaching that the pilgrims injured in this disaster and the relatives of those killed should be made to pay to the government for sending rescue teams.

Cloudbursts
by Ranjan Chowdhury on Jun 20, 2013 11:28 PM

It is a fact that least respect is shown to environment when it comes to tourist or pilgrim places in India. No planning was ever done before and nothing proper is done now. This is in full contrast to what we see in Europe or North American continents. I wonder if India would ever emulate the Western standards!!

But Cloudbursts are a very common phenomenon in the Indian sub-continents. Sudden rainfall of 100MM or more per hour is defined as Cloudburst. Every year Monsoon clouds cause Cloudburts in various parts of India with fatal regularity. To say helicopters have caused the Cludburst is scientifically not correct. As a matter of fact helicopters leave far less carbon footprint than airplanes.

The devastation in Uttarkhand is enormous. These are thickly populated mountains. The traffic is heavy. Naturally the loss of human life and property is unprecedented.

Let's pray for the affected people. Indians all over the world have to come forward to help.

Our problem is we keep blaming each other & always remain in mode of denial. What ever has happened has happened. We do feel sorry but are our politicians ready to improve things now? Can we start planting trees on our mountains in real big way?Stop the use of plastic to save our land? Can we become more aware of the environment now? Not only for Kedarnath but across the country.Hey Netas stop politics & start working! people wld recgnise the work if you do it.
