Verma Report
by G Krishnan on Jan 28, 2013 11:50 AM

Who killed our culture Mr.Verma. Your favourite government. Make laws and that too without any cultural consideration only for 'Hindus'. When the 'Hindu' society points out the anamolies and suggests ways to restore it , you blame them and distort their image. Then reap the fruits in terms of heinous crimes. As long as we have people with mind set like yours or of some of the influential politcal parties crimes against everyone and everything is bound to swell.

What to do with fake rape cases, we know how Sharda Act(dowry) is misused, still no correction/reform.

Rape is a manifestation of an instinct. To attribute it to issues such as patriachy and all is absolute nonsense, and should treated only as a crime. Rapes and brutality do occur in western societies too.

No one denies that rape is a sin. However the incidence of rapes can be considerably reduced if the perceived "gap" between men and women are reduced. Both should feel reasonably comfortable dealing day to day activities just like in western countries. For this women will have to shrug off their shyness and men should also view woman as an equal (just like any other man in a sense). For this the patriachy should stop.

There are rapes in west but they are far and few compared to that in India.

Social Issue Needs to be addressed
by Face Dude on Jan 28, 2013 10:28 AM

Apart from women safety thats being addressed by the law and order in the country (more by the Verma Committee report) there is an acute social issue that needs attention:

1) Majority of Indian women have been ill treated for centuries together. Never had they say on anything - even normal day to day affairs.

2) The domineering and patriachical nature of men over all these years have literally stereotyped women into someone subservient, powerless and almost irritatingly dependent on one or other men for her survival throughout her lifetime

3) This tendency of subversion will naturally result in severe insecurity in the women - we are NOT talking about safety - but insecurity arising out of lack of self respect and self esteem.

4) Naturally, anyone who is insecure will tend to overcome the same in whatever way possible - some of which could be downright manipulative.

5) Now restore the self respect of women and make them feel independent and equally competing to men in any walk of life. If Proactively empowered with education, growth and not stereotyped - women will have no time for bickering and manipulation

Are Indian men willing to restore and provide the self respect and self esteem of Indian women so that they get a equal chance to live their life in their own terms as is happening in advanced countries?

We are not talking about cultural attitudes here. These are individual preferences and are out of scope for women empowerment in general.

Uppercaste should cease to be pleasure leeches...
by sailaja sailaja on Jan 28, 2013 10:16 AM  | Hide replies

There was a wealthy man in Mumbai, who had difficult in having children.
With many efforts finally his wife will concieve and delivers a baby girl.
But the wealthy man wants only boy baby, he bribes the doctor to do favor and gets it replaced with baby boy.
So the baby girl is sent to govt. care as abandoned child and whole stuff is in secret for a money.
The baby boy will finish his MBA in Harvard and takes over his father's busniess. The girl however lands up in red light streets of Mumbai.
The business flourish under this 'baby boy' he will carry his father's name, family name much forward to heights and fame.
(Climax : Baby boy was abandoned by their DALIT parents, few decades back !!!)
The moral of the story is if given chance any one can become big/great.
Uppercastes should give extras they have to poor, instead of seeking pleasure being welathy !!
The great Indian constitution should be preserved and revered by one and all Indians.

People who don't like to be part of republic are anti-establishment and mostly comprises uppercastes, they can leave the nation or lynch themselves with a boulder....and make this nation better and stronger

you don;t need a committee but a will to do it. There are enough suggestions... It has been congress' biggest thing to do the things only when election is closer.... other time only to llot us/ nation.

I think the issue is much larger than who is ruling etc. The issue is to do with the social attitude towards women. This can change only by education and a mindset change at large and not by any political party. At individual level every man and woman should embrace equality of woman as in the western countries. once this happens, instances of abuses - mental, physical and social - will dissappear automatically.

If it still happens then law and order will take care, but without a social change in mindset no amount of law and order will bring a healthy change in women empowerment.
