Murli Manohar Joshi, the BJP leader, made a statement that Mr. Kurien cannot be proceeded against and unseated from the dy.chairmanship of the Rajya Sabha unless he is convicted in the Suryanelli case. Mr. Joshi thus made his position clear that there cannot be any resignation from a constitutional post owning moral responsibility for an alleged crime, however strong the suspicions may be.
Sensing public outrage, BJP leaders then made a correction in their stance by making noises in parliament and outside to the effect that Mr.Kurien ought to resign from the RS dy.chairmanship. Most notable was the noise made by Ms.Sushma Swaraj.
However, when it came to the crunch, BJP leaders closed ranks en masse with Congress ones by remaining deafeningly silent on the matter!!! The left bloc stands isolated in trying to make Kurien accountable for his more than obvious crime!
There are innumerable aspects on which the BJP has repeatedly proven itself to be a carbon copy of the Congress. The Kurien episode is just one more addition to that long list!
