americans wont offer everything just like that...they follow carrot and stick policy. you dont know what they are expecting in return.

but what is more worrying is if US wants to penetrate indian RnD sector and render our institutions useless and heavily dependent on US on long run. Co-development is not always beneficial.... it exposes your RnD organistations and enable americans to penetrate deeper into our rocket technology and thereby hurt ISRO as well

US has shown its true attitude towards India while dealing with Devyani in a degrading manner. We have not yet heard from Obama yet confirming this lowly attitude. Even after this ca we depend upon US ? This must weigh in the decision to be taken while finalising the contract in favor of Javelin and leaving out Israeli or Russian or French or German missiles.

Camaraderie with charlie on ATGM may produce------

---unpredictable result, which may not be palatable for India in the long run. Israeli MOU are more stable and reliable. We don't want Israel to be left over. We need Israel as our comrade in Arms, because in near future we have to fight with China and Pakistan to regain our lost territories to them, in that case only Israel will come to help us. Charlie is good but unpredictable. Whereas Israelis are 100% dependable and predictable in positive way.

The offer is well worth considering!

India has nothing to lose by talking to US. And if there is a serious offer of tech transfer, then we must look at it seriously.

We need real high technology and it can be a test of the US desire to develop military relations with us.

Any connection between the diplomatic scandle between India and US and this offer/news?
Before India commits too deeply for this venture perhaps it should explore, what are the options if US policy changes and it decides to impose sanctions for some alleged infraction(remember nuke sanctions). Another point to note is that there are suggestions of "better deal on an expensive but better product" but not specifics. And there is a suggestion that an FMS deal with 3.5 percent commission to pentagon and no direct negotiating capability for India is better than an openly negotiated deal with manufacturer(may/may not involve middlemen at unknown rate of commission). If the only product that meets requirements is US I understand but with other players in market I hope Indian decision makers are taking all factors into account.

Any defence deal with joint mabufacture is Welcome
by ratanlal purohit on Dec 18, 2013 04:38 AM  | Hide replies

Better still FDI is the better in Defence than depending on import. United Technologies for that matter is an excellent co. They offered Helicopter Sikorosky under FDI but we opted Scanalous Italian UK Augusta. UTc Otis has made India a manufacturing hub. Even Chinese OTIS in Teimjin was technology transfer from India to manufacture High Speed Gearless machine that S Korea Hyundai was trying to develop in 96. South Korea is now gone ahead due to FDI in MANUFACTURING. SO IS CHINA. And India choses FDI in Retail. WHY I dont know.
