Japan was opposing our Independent Nuclear detterrence while having its own US umbrella. It is looking out for India because it is not so confident of US support. Even recently suzuki will not transfer technology for automatic gear shift until Koreans came over.It is basically befriending India due to its fear of
china which Japan only allowed to grow with lot of technology transfer which
Chinese improved upon.

It is easy to find reasons, not easy to determine whether the rationale really applies to the context.

The real constrains in making a product offer is the market itself, its size, price point, investment levels, and legal constraints in land acquisition, funding, labor policies and licensing etc.

Management decision making must consider a whole gamut of issues, and a liberal regime if obtained in India can definitely accelerate economic growth.

Important to stress non-alignment credentials
by Ramesh on Dec 07, 2013 10:18 AM  | Hide replies

Unlike Japan, India provides its own security. The strategic partnership, if any, need not compromise on non-alignment credentials. As an independent pole in the global order, India given its inherent strength can be a factor of stability. This is of greater use to Japan than any support in outbreak. More critical, it reduces war risks to India.

The Chinese response to VP Biden visit has been unduly tough. Their spokesperson took an unambiguous stand even before the visit. Chinese could have given a concession by opting for interpretation of their air defense zone in the manner US interprets it, that enforce it only for crafts directed towards the mainland. Chinese did not relent. It will taken months, if not years for US to workout policy consequences. What India needs to avoid is being a proxy player, as Pakistan has willingly and even eagerly done over last several decades.

India and China are in similar stage of development, their lead is atmost 7-8 years which can be made up. Development shall be faster by maintaing peace in the subcontinent, and being a factor of peace and stability for the region and the world.

It would be worth it if Japanese collaborate in developing thorium molten salt technology. India will become energy independent.

Agree with you. It is more important to collaborate in making of chips, ultra-strong glass and other electronic hardware components and devices.

MMS recently spoke about the urgency in this domain, since imports of electronic products could surge to become larger than even oil imports.

Be Cautious of Japanese
by Mahadeva Mishra on Dec 06, 2013 04:45 PM  | Hide replies

Indo Japan alliance is a necessity to neutralise Chinese threat in the region. Both Countries are in the process of getting affected by an aggressive China. But one can never fully trust Japanese or Americans. The whole Japanese mindset before WWII was Japan can never loose a War. That arrogance is part of the majority Japanese population even today. Japanese are very aggressive in spreading their buddhist religion soka gakkai in India. The whole idea of this religion is they are the only hope and saviors of this World. Same Japanese arrogance.
One has to be very careful of Japan. Though it is the necessity of the moment to have alliance with them only keeping China in mind. But this kind of conditional alliance will never last long. Besides japan has all along been a great supporter of Pakistan. They blindly follow America.
