Food security bill is golden opportunity for 23 seema /Andhra MPs to defeat this bill. It will result in forcing Govt to resign and order for fresh elections.

Division of AP automatically get stopped now and let next elections decide this issue.Let parties take stands on this issue as well as food security and tell people clearly what they are going to do or what they are going to offer in containing price raise/inflation and also types of food security.
Let people get opportunity for this .
23 Seema/andhra MPS should come out against high command and vote against this bill . The citizens of entire country will be happy because the electorate will decide these issues through voting

In 2009 elections , YSR clearly took stand against division and made statements in Seema Andhra region to that effect. HE was the icon of united state in 2009 and that was why people voted for him and him only . In 2004 elections, congress promised SRC but abandoned that idea. SRC would have clearly given a chance for greater hyderabad people to demand separate state (as they are nearly cores) on lines of delhi. People trusted congress but congress started cheating now .
That why Seema andhra MPS should facilitate defeating of food bill now under any circumstances.

Time to ban child marriage and control population first
by sivanantham on Aug 07, 2013 06:36 PM

Any bill banning child(teenage) marriage and controlling population will be very useful.
Because population and poverty are inter-related to each other. Our people must realized that those who can not feed food their children from their own money, they must not breed children.
Government should NOT become charity. If it becomes charity continuously, then country will be bankrupted soon. If the government is continuously wasting for freebies and subsidized items or foods, then the deficit will definitely increase. This freebies and subsidized items are the clever ways of attracting poor voters during next year election. After the election we can expect the price hike definitely to compensate the deficit. Now it is time to realize that freebies and subsidized items can give short-time happiness to our people. After this short-time our people will be slapped with price hike. Giving freebies and subsidized items and price hikes are cyclic. Unless our people started to ignore the freebies and subsidized items, then inflation will be increased after certain period of time.

On one side the economy is on the downturn with rising prices, falling rupee, fewer jobs created, fewer investment denting the common man's earning power.

On the other side we have this hackneyed scheme of giving freebies making people lazy and putting the burden on the already overloaded shoulders of the tax payer.

Who are the beneficiaries: Corrupt politicians and middlemen who would be already licking their lips at the prospect of leaking money from this and the Congress party who wants this bill to change the electoral game in their favour.

FOOD SECURITY BILL
by dipak anand on Aug 07, 2013 05:50 PM

Just to please Sonia Gandhi, the whole bunch of Congress, UPA are after this bill, as if poors shall start getting food from tomorrow. Nobody has gone into its implications, nothing at all, but the bill has to be passed because Sonia has said. Nobody is applying his mind. How it is going to reach to the poor people, nobody is able to confirm. So far Shiela Dixit has not been able to implement Annashree scheme, not even a single family has received even one dana of grains. Whenever, anybody talks to her, she has her own excuses. Now this food security bill is going to be implemented on ALL INDIA BASIS. How they are going to do it, nobody is in a position to confirm. But they are simply telling it will take six to eight months. Why this jhunjhuna or shagoofa before elections is being given, we are unable to understand, just to shout in the election speeches that we have introduced this food security bill. So, the purpose is defeated, except to be fool the public mainly the poor people. So far we have not been able to catagorise below the poverty line population and at the same time, we are telling poors that Farookh Abdullah can provide food for Re.1.00 Raj Babbar for Rs12.00 and one more Minister is providing food in Delhi for Rs.5.00 ( all belly filled). But they have not been able to provide of place of availability of such foods. If these leaders are so confident, why not mid-day meals to the children is provided from there. So MMS/SG facet he reality & don't do politics

Double Dhamaka for medium farmers
by Jagdish Dubey on Aug 07, 2013 05:41 PM

A justification often touted for such a huge expansion of the coverage of what is basically AAY ( Antyodaya Anna Yojana for the poorest 5% started in 2002) is that we have huge stocks of foodgrains. That is so because the government is procuring so much wheat and rice much beyond buffer stock basically to transfer good money to medium and large farmers who influence the rural voters. Now most of them will get double benefit by buying dirty cheap what they are selling to FCI (Govt) at high prices. Already the number of ration cards under TPDS is far more than the total number of families in the country- 192 million.
One of the most important reasons for inflation is so much procurement at the ever rising MSP. Allow free market and prices will come down due to production being more than the demand and thus also correct the imbalances in the cropping pattern.
Why dirt cheap prices- why not provide it free to all? And why only 2/3rd why not for all those who would like to take it. The upper classes will even otherwise not buy from the ration shops.

Making People Lazy and Fattening the purse of Corrupts
by Murtaza Ali on Aug 07, 2013 05:26 PM

By this, what we are loosing is the efficiency of our greatest asset, our teeming population. By giving these freebies, all we are doing is destroying the zest among the poor people to earn for his/her living. No country, even the super powers, can afford this luxury. The way we can increase the efficiency of our teeming population and provide environment for employment is to invest in infrastructure. Our country badly need infrastructure to cater to our large population and believe me, we Indians are good enough to earn our livelihood on the global platform.

FSB
by arvind kayan on Aug 07, 2013 05:26 PM

FSB, Food Security Bill, is just another scam in making. It would be better if the Govt. would spend some of these funds to straighten up the existing PDS and FCI. Instead, they are adding more money to the coffers of corruption.

Take a look at the troubled states. Kashmir to Arunachal. The Govt. has given subsidies, tax reliefs et all but the people are still below the poverty line. The basic problem is the earning power, which the Govt. does not allow to increase. If a person is jobless and has a family, how can he buy food even if it is made available for a pittance? This common sense has evaded our leaders since independence till date.

Such acts undermine the rights not only of the States but also of the common man. The largest beneficiary of these schemes are those who are involved in corrupt practices.

So the Govt. has accepted Int'l poverty line of $2
by Jagdish Dubey on Aug 07, 2013 05:19 PM

FSB can be faulted about the rationale for expansion of its scope to cover the APL (above the poverty line) families. Internationally, there are two poverty lines one of extreme poverty at $1.25 per person per day and the other poverty line at $2 per person per day( Rs124 pppd at purchasing power of Rs.62 to $1). The head count under the later was 841 million or 68.7%, in 2010. This is about the same as the two third population being targeted under the food security bill.
The tax payers may groan. On the one hand government procurement of cereals has been increasing by leaps and bound and so has the minimum support price, consequently the economic price. Food subsidy bill is escalating because CIP continue to be the same as in 2002. FCI funded by the central government is buying more cereals from the farmers with medium and large holdings at rising prices and issuing the same to the states at prices fixed eleven years ago. In 2012-13 per kg economic cost of wheat and paddy procured by the FCI was Rs18.22 and Rs 24.19 as against the AAY CIP of Rs. 2 and Rs.3, respectively. Procurement which is roughly one third of total production (assuming to be 87 mts and 120 mts ) of these commodities will go up. For coarse cereals, procurement is very small in comparison. At an average subsidy of Rs.18 thousand per ton, the estimate for 60 mts works out to Rs 108000 crores roughly 49% higher than Rs.72383 crores the actual for 2011-12. The amount goes up by 35% if we factor in leakages.
