Appreciating Indian efforts to cross the Rubicon
by Ramesh on May 02, 2013 03:47 AM  | Hide replies

War should not be a preferred option - R N Ravi
--------------------

Chinese are rational players and expect Indians to be so as well. It seems the Chinese infringement have risen in step with improvement in Indian border preparation and are determined efforts to counter and foil it. They have had a head start of over two decades in preparation and are confident enough to preclude Indian threat. The April thrust is to ensure Indian conformance to their design.

This land threat denial capability, unlike the sea denial doctrine is an offensive potential which Chinese may have regained only in last few years. The silver lining in the cloud is that Chinese sense Indian threat is credible thus causing them to take serious risk. On the other hand, until further progress is made, it poses a serious risk of losing more territory in case India actively resists, instead of conforming to their rational design. This threat escalation, a consequence of Indian decision to upgrade border capability, shall attenuate only when Chinese compute the risk as unaffordable.

Indian response amidst an array of confusion and brave talks inevitable in democracy; also showed a matured comprehension from the concerned quarters. Shri Antony said that India factor weigh in the whole range of national interests. His studied definition of what constitues a win for India creates multiple options for India to respond at various levels to mitigate this threat.

The detailing of what constitutes a win for India opens up creative possibilities. The continuation of the impasse in a way suits Indian democracy to delve and debate seriously the policy options to respond to this standoff credibly and realistically.

If Chinese compute that some form of Stockholm syndrome would work, or that Indian resolve would weaken to submission, it would be erroneous reading of tea leaves.

In the modern version of war it is more about information warfare and capability deployment, for rational responses get worked out to avoid absurd level of damages which could get inflicted.
Earlier it was Japan and now India, by opening up two set of fault lines a new Cold war could get potentially triggered, unless Chinese move with seriousness of purpose not to press home their short term tactical superiority and resolve the matter amicably. Overreach by Chinese planners would only trigger what shall turn out to be a soft variant of their Operation Barbarossa.

"KHUDI KO KAR BULAND ITNA, KI KHUDA KHUD TUJH SE PUCHHE, KI BATA TERI RZA KYA HAI".
India can make itself strong in Defense preparedness & lntelligence. But all defense deals are stucked due to corruption & lntelligence agencies have been deployed for domestic political intelligence gathering. lf current lndian govt. had willpower to bring back even half of Black money (stashed in Swiss & other foreign Banks), lndia can have sufficient funds to make our army much stronger than Chinese. & with transparent deals, all stucked up defence equipments can be procured. Also When Indian Intelligence can fool all world ( Pokhran Nuke Tests),it can do any wonder, provided its properly utilized. Neeyat Saaf honi chahiye.Bharat me Paise aur Dimaag ki kami nahi hai. Aur Indian Military ka to sab mulk Loha mante hai. Because lndian Military world ki wo army hai jisme Officer to Soldier Casuality ratio world ki kisi bhi army se jyada hai,'coz our Military Officers are Actual Leaders, who Leads from Front. Its only Our Political Leaders, who fails us every time.Except Lal Bahadur Shastri, who fought for what he believed & promised to countrymen (he'll not handover Pakistani territory, won by India in 1965 war), but he too was killed(poisoned) by country's enemies, in joint conspiracy with Indian leaders (waiting to be PM of that time. Now, India have to be strong, else Current Nominated PM , MMS attitude(Its just a local Incursion & Not a problem to worry),wi

up to Chinese simply because this country's foreign policy is guided by the disasterous and fatalistic Gandhian and Nehruvian ideology which says that if the enemy wants to cut your one hand, offer him other one too.

Unless this changes, India will not be respected by the world. Sadly, I do not see that happening in India.
