No one in India questions their influence. Their influence extends way beyond Congress, to the President of the Country, the CBI, the coal mines, the spectrum in the air, helicopters, commonwealth games (Olympics next?), it is an endless list of individuals and institutions. Unfortunately, their influence does not extend to at least some of the judges in the Supreme Court. That is why India survives in spite of Congress, Sonia and Manmohan! Jai Hind!

When BJP was in power did you stop carrying those things? Ration cards were not compulsory for many things before BJP came to power. After the end of 90s when the religious party was in power, everywhere they started asking for Ration cards as proof, and there was a rush to get them. I remember standing in line in Mumbai for days to get the Card, everyone in line bitching about the government (Shivsena/ BJP). Cards were also freely issued to Bangladeshis for bribes during those days. To top it, it was rumored that a list of people who declare large incomes in the Card application used to go to the SS goons secretly who will then try to extort money from those applicants. That is the life under the religious parties for you.
