It was 35 years and not 25. Sorry for the mistake. It was 78. My Mothers maternal Aunt used to stay at Darbarshah Chowk. From her house we could see terrace and Bhimdarnewala addressing a congrrgation. It was a peaceful mornimg. Me and my wife had gone for a 17 day pilgrimage from Mumbai to Jammu Katra Vaishnodevi and reached Amritsar next day early morning. It was winter 19thDec but even to day I remember as if it was yester day. The photos we took were at the similar points. The museum is at firdt floor. Langarkadah prasad still on our tongue. All should bow their head there.

every religious shrine which has faith and trust of masses attached....is respectful! we must respect faiths...evenif we dnt confine to that faith or not!
Very well written piece, the author seems to have been really in love with this place. Can some one answer this - Why is it called Harmandir Sahib, is there a saint associated with the construction of this temple?

Hi Shilpy, It is not Mandir, it is Gurudwara. To answer your question, there are water purifying machines which run 24 hours..

1.There are pumps to push in fresh water. 2.Filters to clean the water. 3.Manual cleaning...eg leaves/paper 4.Fish...which act as biological scavengers 5.Complete cleaning and repair of the sarovar...called Kar Seva..done every few years.Voluntary participation of the devotees. 6.Professional and technical assistance of experts in the field.

right. you are right, of course. i was thinking in terms of keeping the water of bathing quality, forgetting about the fish.
pls see_bioversedotcom.
i wonder they use this kinda product which is meant for ponds and small lakes. it keeps water clear but i am not sure the water thus treated would be suitable for bathing.
my interest is to know what they do there to keep the water of bathing quality. thanks.
I have been to many temples in India, but one thing that really disappoints me is that most of the popular temples have got lot of commercialization around it. But I believe Golden Temple is sole such temple where you wont see any such rubbish and that's one of the important reason for its purity and charm
