I feel it should be someone who is a very nice person, firstly.
Secondly of very good achievements.
Thirdly a famous person would be very good only.
I was thinking like maybe we should look beyond the ordinary, look at other fields of Human Endeavour, for example:
1) Cricket: Shri Sachin Tendulkar - this will also dispel all the unnecessary discussions on his India Gem (Ratna), since once he assumes office, he need not await to be recommended before giving himself the award.
2) I would have recommended Amitji or Rajni Sir, but both of them are just at the middle of their careers and would be likely working in active cinema for around another 50 years, so we need to wait till they reach the age to retire.
3) From the field of Engineering we could evalaute the candidature of Shri Arun M. Naik. That way L & T would have another CHairman in his lifetime (assuming this is a full time job)
4) From Politics, after the UP results, two names spring to mind immediately, the young Ms. Mayawatiji and the even younger Shri Digvijay Singhji.
5) From the Field of Literature, who could be better than Arundhati Roy. Anyway, she has already written the "God of Small Things" and is thus ready to move on from the field of literature after a long body of work.
