FCs- HATED in India , Respected in US
by Sri on Jun 02, 2012 10:25 PM  | Hide replies

FCs in INDIA are being harassed, humiliated, denied, mis-treated, ignored , and even threatened...
Quota culture has wiped out FCs..
Brahmins are nearly extint in India...

These FCs are forced to look else where but India for survival, and yes in US they are excelling ...

Actually, it is not the FCs per se, it is anyone who is straight forward in intent and dealings who finds himself persecuted or ignored !

There are FCs as well as non FCs in that group !

And there are FCs also in the other group (that is ever willing to steal and lie) which has made itself immensely comfortable in the country !!

India, as Lord Mackaulay said long ago, is indeed a "Nation of Knaves" !!

How many such contests we have in India?
by French Cuisine on Jun 02, 2012 08:58 AM

The spelling bee is a prestigious contest and nationally followed and broadcast. Recently Anand was engaged in a thrilling match against Gelfand and most Indians were not watching. Should we not telecast national chess or quiz contests in order to make them popular? Maybe some olympiads too. I find it rather amusing that Indians have to follow what desiKids are doing in the US. Maybe someone can enlighten me about some nationally followed contest of analogous nature, not musiCcontests or IndianIdols.

but look at her now. She has to wear 1 inch thick glasses and she's not even in college yet.

She probably also missed a lot of sports and outdoor activities.

Kids her age should be play and get physical exercise and not cram words.

The fact that Indians do well in bees is no reason to be proud off.

ppager, it does take certain stuff to get up there and handle the intense pressure when the whole world is watching and come through it all at number one. she has my respect. but i do agree with you on the over all point of the futitliy of spending extraordinary amount of time learning those words we would have little use for.

Let us not be overly proud of it
by vorpal on Jun 01, 2012 09:41 PM  | Hide replies

Almost obvious that the winner and other "Indian" (quotes intentional) contestants had spent considerable time on preparation by reading specialized spelling books (i.e., difficult and rare words), and memorizing. It is debatable whether it is a useful activity.

Well Done

The Chinese,Indians,Koreans, etc are doing well in the US.Obama is worried about the American kids. While Asian kids study hard, the American kids are eating junk food and becoming fat.Let us appeciate the success of Indian American kids.In the US,if the bill is $52 and you give the cashier a $100 and two notes of $1 and expect him to return a $50 note, he will become confused and ask why we are giving him $1 notes. Here our vegetable vendors are smarter.

This doesn't speak well of India and Indians. The practice of giving 100 2 to settle a bill of 52 and similar transactions are unheard of abroad. Chhutta is a problem in India only. Abroad, they will change any note for you. No questions asked. Irrespective of the magnitude of your purchase. The machine that makes the bill also tells how much change to return. So, no problem.

The vegetable vendors in India aren't smart. They can only perform some fixed calculations for survival - like ek pav at 37 Rs. a kg is what in money. Ask them to do some other calculation and you will know their level.

Why NRI ?
by Srinivas on Jun 01, 2012 05:03 PM  | Hide replies

Why call these loveless creatures as NRI, call them as LOA (Lovers of America).

As sensationalized 99.9 percent Indians are not happy in US. They are guilt of leaving their parents here, they are treated like III class citizens (worse than scavengers in India!).
In NASA, many Indians clean floor and toilets, there are more Turkish in top positions in NASA than Indians !

Most gradutates and post graduates end up in McDonalds or Walmart selling burgers and groceries !

Both Blacks and Whites hate brown Indians. Hence more crime on browny Indians.

JEALOUS LOSER! you must be a Paki or relative of Duryodhan (both same anyway)! don't talk thru your a$$. Indians in US have the highest per capita income among any race or group of people (including whites). They are better citizens and desh bakths and care about Mother India than many losers like you back home. They will all come back to India once all the vile people have been cleaned out.

Cramming!!!
by Tuchcha Aadmi on Jun 01, 2012 04:27 PM  | Hide replies

Most contestants dont know meaning of the words but know the spelling.

This shows what?

Indians are good at by-hearting things without understanding them.
