Rats
by Louis Hamon on Jan 30, 2012 07:38 AM

In India the rats will eat the foodgrains stored in govt godowns and ministers will ask people to eat the rats because grains cannot be given in charity. A solution lies in food for work but that requires monitoring on quality of food and type of work.

Easiest way to prosperity and food security...
by prem k on Jan 30, 2012 12:27 AM  | Hide replies

... is to let the farmers sell their produce to the global markets at the global rates. This would make 60% of the population of the country rich overnight. Farming will become a much more honorable and profit-making profession. All subsidies can be removed and farmers can be made to pay taxes exactly as the normal persons - with no IT exemption.

But if this were to happen, who would be the biggest losers? Of course, the entire political class because subsidy can no longer be an election issue and farmers will not demand free power or subsidised power, but 24 hours power at normal rates. This would be a night-marish scenario for all politicians - across left, right and center. There will be real strong demand for equity and land-reforms and rich farmers such as Pawar or Chautala or Badal or Ajit Singh or Malayam Yadav would be losers.

PREM,

I AGREE, HERE IS MY TAKE, THE OTHER DAY MY BROTHER ASHWIN SAID, SOLUTION TO INDIA'S AGRICULTURE PRODUCTION IS TO HAVE EACH VILLAGE
TO HAVE MODERN EQUIPMENT FOR HARVESTING AND COLLECTING HORVEST, A STORAGE SILO, A GAS RUN SMALL POWER PLANT THAT CAN BE RUN ON GOBER GAS " GAS COLLECTED FROM COW DUNGS" IT IS FEASIBLE AND VALID SOLUTION FOR INDIA, WAY TO DO I IS BY COLLECTIVE CO-OPERATIVE, WHERE WHOLE VILLAGE ACT AS A UNIT BUY EQUIPMENT WORK TO GETHER FOR WHOLE VILLAGE, ONCE THEY SELL PRODUCT THEY GET SHARE PER LAND THEY OWN.

WAITING FOR GOI'S FREE BEE IS LIKE PIE IN THE SKY, SELF HELP IS WAY TO GO REST WILL FALL IN PLACE.

IF WE STOP EXPECTING GOI TO GIVE FREE BEE , BETTER FOR INDIA, WE ARE ON WRONG PATH, OF CRISTIAN MISSIONARY METHODS FOR INDIA, INDIA HAS IT'S OWN STRENGTH WHICH NEED TO BE MOBILIZED.

LOVE INDIA, HEY IF THERE IS REAL NEED , WE NEED TO SET UP NATIONAL SUPPORT GROUP, FREE OF GOI OR BABUS. THAT'S WAY TO GO INDIA.

EVEN PERSON LIKE ME IS WILLING TO PITCH IN BOTH FINANCIALLY AND WORKING FOR FREE.

SONIA HAS NO CLUE WHAT EXTENT MONEY LEAKED IN PIPE LINE, EVEN HER OWN PARTY MEN WILL IT IT BEFORE IT REACH RECIPIENT.

IT BOILS DOWN TO "VOTE" AT EXPENCE OF NATIONAL COFFER, IT WILL BE BETTER IF YOU USE IT FOR BUILDING BETTER ROADS, POWER PLANTS, WATER TO FARMS, DAMS, BETTER INTER WATER WAYS CONNECTION SO WATER DOES NOT GO TO SEA BUT GOES TO FARM LAND, THAT'S WAY TO THINK.

INDIA NEEDD MORE VOCAL, ENGINEERS, PLANNERS, WHO STAND ON THEIR TWO FEET AND WORK ON NATIONAL AGENDAS AND NOT TWO PANNY POLITICIANS.

ARE YOU WITH ME?

Food security bill...
by prem k on Jan 29, 2012 09:23 PM

... is a sure-shot step towards chaos, food-riots and mass destruction. First the govt will cheat the poor farmers by forcibly requiring them to sell their produce at a price much below the support or global prices and then there will be mass corruption in the execution of the scheme. It may not reduce the hunger of the already poor people, but push the millions of middle class into food poverty

Implementation is possible by taking care of the wastage of food grains alone.
