The major reason for all the lack of law and order in India is simply this : the police to population ratio is just 130 per 100000 people, well below the minimum police strength of 222 per 100000 people recommended by the UN.
Law and order is needed for healthy progress of the country in all sectors, and this is essentially provided by a good and effective police force.
All developed and progressive nations have a very good police to population ratio. France (356), Germany (298 ),Great Britain( 307 ), U.S.A (256),Spain (511),Belgium(373), Malaysia (370),Singapore(752) are examples.
Good law and order ensures a healthy society and a good background for economic development as well for obvious reasons.
If India aspires to be a developed nation, it should first increase the police to population ratio from its measly 130 at present to at least the UN recommended minimum police strength of 222.
Otherwise all these crimes and protests will keep on happening without any end at sight.

The Indian government need not get tense and worried about the costs of maintaining a 222 strong police to population ratio, as the strong economic development that comes with good law and order will more than compensate for the greater investment in the policing sector.
Coward, self proclaimed leaders - come out for right cause - be a leader joining the public - do not stay in home fearing for life - face water cannon and lathicgarge - be a true leaders like Bhagat singh, lala lajpat rai, Azad etc.
It is unfortunate that the persons with power and special security cannot realize the safety and security requirements for the common man in general and the women/girls in particular. Besides providing death penalty to rapists and creating fast track courts for Crimes against Women, the special security being provided to our so called leaders and VIPs must be withdrawn and these personnel shd be deployed for ensuring safety and security of the Common Man. The so called leaders and VIPs will realize the Common Man's problem if and only if the special security to these people at the cost of Tax Payers money is withdrawn. Those persons having threats shd quit the political arena and, if required, be accommodated within the precincts of the Army Cantonment on payment of Rent. Let persons who do not have threats to their life be given the leadership role. Unfortunately our Leaders have defacto become the "Colonial Masters" and are not sensitive to Common Man's problems.
