Tragic news. It just reflects the extreme conditions under which our brave soldiers work to safeguard our country. I salute all our soldiers. Deepest condolences to their families. May their soul rest in peace.
Is Mr Chidamram paying heed why army needs better pay scales and promotions than his favourate para military forces HS Sharma Advocate, Uttrakhand High Court
Siachen glacier is of strategic importance to india. The army deployed there is to resist covert attacks from the other side as was the case in kargil.I salute these brave jawans for the mission. Now my suggestion is why not to use smart drones and sofisticated artillery for keeping the enemy at bay, rather than to loose precious lives. The technology will come for rescue if the govt has the will to safeguard both Siachen and our jawans.

In places like Siachen where there is poor visibility and extreme weather the drones cannot see and in Siachen of high wind and snow the drones will be in effective. Artillery can not used in peace time. In Line of Control scenario where loss of territory is not acceptable soldiers have to be on the ground.

India and Pakistan should live side by side as good neighbours with no soldiers from either of India and Pakistan in Siachen belt?

The Russian victory over the French army in 1812 marked a huge blow to Napoleon's ambitions of European dominance. This war was the reason the other coalition allies triumphed once and for all over Napoleon. His army was shattered and morale was low, both for French troops still in Russia, fighting battles just before the campaign ended and for the troops on other fronts. Out of an original force of 615,000, only 110,000 frostbitten and half starved survivors stumbled back into France.[64] The Russian campaign was the decisive turning-point of the Napoleonic Wars that ultimately led to Napoleon's defeat and exile on the island of Elba.[1] For Russia the term Patriotic War (an English rendition of the Russian Отечественная война) formed a symbol for a strengthened national identity that would have great effect on Russian patriotism in the 19th century. The indirect result of the patriotic movement of Russians was a strong desire for the modernization of the country that would result in a series of revolutions, starting with the Decembrist revolt and ending with the February Revolution of 1917.
