Pakistanis have a habit of lobbing shells at us.
by Vishnu Sharma on Apr 11, 2012 11:08 AM  | Hide replies

Basically we are occupying the higher altitude and they are 1600 feet below us.

When I was posted there, they used to have this habit of disrupting our morning tea with shell fire. Being at a lower altitude makes them more aggressive. You can see this behaviour in the film "Vertical Limit" also.

These scum fired some shells on a loos ice sheet which triggered the avalanche which buried them. Hope they stay in their icy graves.

Jo soya so paya.

Kameenepan ka yahi natija hoga.

I have read quite a few articles about this. It certainly understand how important it is to maintain Indian forces there. It certainly is sad to see so many deaths on all sides. So much could have been avoided had 1984 had not happened.

More clarity required in the article
by Kamal on Apr 11, 2012 10:58 AM  | Hide replies

First and foremost for the expenses figure mentioned in this article - the source is to be mentioned. Secondly, Pakistan figures whether it is Pakistan Rupee or Indian Rupee has to be stated. It is better to mention in convered US$. Thirdly, annual figures computations should be made correctly.

Whatever said and done. The loss of more than 8000 human lives cannot be accepted in any terms.

Why not both the countries realize this and withdraw troops instead of fighting.

More money spent on defense means more money to middlemen. After all these are all our own tax money.

For 34 years after Independence, Siachen was considered as Indian territory, but there was no confrontation on this by Pak till 1984, when Pak started publicizing to Western world about arranged tours to Siachen Glacier. Then only our Govt woke up for guarding that place, & Army was sent there, without any proper gears, as nobody had come across such situation till that time. Over the time gear supplied to Soldiers there has changed, but still the place is naturally hostile for living.
But it has to be guarded for security of other portion of our J & K.

Rs 1.5 billion a month equal Rs 18 billion a year... no 30 billion as in your article!

Instead they can invest the money railways, education , and also create a ministry for men welfare at the central government for the benefit of men.

India should send all the housewives and women to fight in siachen, they are all sitting idle at home and doing non hazardous works. Let women take up risk in life, men will stay at home now.

MP's MUST SPEND 10 DAYS IN DEC IN SIACHAN.
by mukteshwar on Apr 11, 2012 10:39 AM  | Hide replies

since our MP's have got no knoweledge of the conditions preveiling in our border areas where our troops spend 2 yrs on one posting, our MP's,and ministers, specially our finance minister Pranab Da ,who had refused to give ONE RANK ONE PENSION,Must spend just 10 days in siachan. if that happened, atleast the country would be benefitted by their "first hand knoweledge" of our border conditions.(if they came back alive!!)

bravo. well said.. not just the idotic ministers, the FM, Cabinet ministers and all there goons.
On a serious note, none of the so called IAS chaps ever stay in such remote areas on Indo Pak and Indo China borders. for being in MOD it should be compulsary for all Secretary and IAS baboos to spend 2 yrs in operational areas. only then they should be considered for such posts. They delay procurement of clothing, equipment, pensions, weapons, life saving equipment. as they are quite spiteful and shameless. Humbled by Nature is the need of the hour

Absolutely Right ! ! ! ! ! !
These Baboos MUST BE SENT TO this border as well as Kashmir for at least six months each. They must understand the needs of living at these places on their own. Then only they will allow expenses for soldier's proper gears & weapons, without any fuss.
Also I would suggest that we must send our media persons there as well, without any camera or recorder - so they also can understand efforts taken by our Army & both will stop unnecessary fiddling in Army's matters & creation of 'Leaks' for 'Bytes'.
