Depends who dies
by Sameer Bhagwat on Sep 11, 2011 07:14 PM  | Hide replies

I only hope if the world also reflected on the plight and loss of innocent life in Palestine, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Chechnya, China and other places where millions of innocent people are being killed and tortured in the name of "war against terror". Well it all depends on who is dying, if you are American or any one from their allies then you need attention, others are just numbers. What is sick world has come to.

I was there in Land of the Brave we call USA. Where Americans respect democracy and share everything they have with everyone. They are the most peaceful people. Among those killed were Indians and Indian Americans too. May the souls rest in peace. As for the Mosquitos who are killed at all the other places you mentioned they died with their silly little cause called religion which breathes on believing or non believing. Americans did right in stopping the shinzels who wanted to build mosque at ground zero. Shamless violent religion of the world.

Innocence is no protection against attack by others. Weakness is the cause of vulnerability. In geopolitical thinking wisdom is more useful than morals. Governments of poor countries owe it to their people to make their countries strong, and deal with other countries from positions of strength rather than let their affairs be dominated over by other countries.

You attack You pay is the American way. Amen to that!
by Akash Nair on Sep 11, 2011 07:08 PM  | Hide replies

Exterminating the Bin Laden leach proves to the world what the US is capable of. They place a very heavy price on the lives of their citizens. People can criticize their actions in Afghanistan and Iraq but the fact remains they succeeded in dismantling the terrorist network to a great extent. Criticize Bush all you want but the apparatus he set in place, now carried on by Obama has protected Americans from another terrorist attack in their homeland, 10 years since 9/11. Compare that with the number of terrorist attacks we had in India. Its a shameful statistics that our politicians and us the citizens quietly shove under the carpet and move on in denial. There is inspiration to be had but our appeasement policies and a lack of self respect bogs us down. We will eagerly carry out the death penalty of Rajiv Gandhi assassination conspirator but not the mastermind who attacked the beacon of our democracy - the parliament house. The difference, deny as much as you want, is the religion of the perpetrators. Sad but true.

Pakistan exports terrorism and drugs abroad.
Pakistan is the epicentre of terrorism.
The sad part is that none of the socalled social activists, journalists or writers voiced when the entire population of Kashmiri Pandits having been driven out of their own homeland and become refugees or 'internally displaced'people in their own motherland.

Two sides of the story
by Ujwala Kulkarni on Sep 11, 2011 06:41 PM

There invariably are two sides to a story. Fair journalism requires that both the sides be brought out without any bias. Although coverage in the media, during the last decade, has been replete with pictures of 9/11. Devastation caused - in Iraq by US Tomahawks, the NASTY 14" shells, smart bombs, likewise the damage caused by Hellfire missiles of the dreaded US drones in Waziristan - has seldom received the coverage it deserves. Should one assume that this didn't cause any bloodshed? Or that non-US lives are cheap? And what about grisly incidents like Iranair flight 655? What about the Pak bombing of a hospital in Punjab in '65 with free US bombs. Are these too distant memories. US doesn't seem to realize that violence leads to more violence. More than terror, against which the US seems to have insulated itself well, the economic and military rise of China should be a priority for them. Alarm bells should ring now for US may soon have to surrender Taiwan to China notwithstanding the wishes of the Taiwanese people - the way UK ceded Hongkong and Portugal Macau without a whimper.
