This article is too pretentious. ALL Bengalis who can read and write, or even dont, have Tagore in their everyday lives. Pakistan's Islamic junta banned Tagore songs and his works from Radio pakistan, but that hasnt stopped Tagore at all. Iqbal no one should care for, the man was a fanatic who dreamed of this Islamic haven, that is now Pakistan.
you lived in Europe for 60 years (that is almost whole life). May I ask a genuine question, please don't take it as cynical criticism, did it really take 60 years of dwelling in Europe behind superficial things to realize the spirituality of Indian soil, and it's rich cultural and artful heritage?

I agree with you with one exception KABIR. All the saints you mentioned incl kabir they knew what got is. everyone else interested in materialistic world though they are great poets.
The pity today is that not many people know about valmiki, vyasa, and kalidasa and our communist text books dont even mention about them anymore.

Well you may not want to remember them but quality stands without any crutches. India banished Urdu but look even Bollywood still uses it in lyrics. Why is that? Can't Hindi poets provide that, or can you name one Hindi poet who contributed to popular culture in a way these legends like Ghalib and IUqbal did or even in Bollywood. Fact is no matter how much u crib, tulsidas, surdas and kalidas are all that u can boast of and that was always a rustic idiom, not suited to urban tastes which is why Hindi can only be forced upon people to use, as people rise upward, they tend to ward it off. You can't flog a dead horse, and learn to appreciate Muslim contribution to Indian heritage in language, cuisine, arts, culture and architecture, otherwise Indians would still have been eating dal bhaat in pattas.

u shud preach abt those to Pakis...not even ONE Pakistani university has a course in anything Hindu or Indian..no Indology, no Sanskrit dept no Hindi department in ALL of Pakistan..go preach to them man!

Urdu is a failure and is solely responsible for Pakistan breaking up. The language is simply Hindi infused with Persian words. Urdu has extremel limited poetic scope and hovers around sharab and saqi. It is good for singing praised to tawaifs. Urdu completely failed in Pakistan and was kicked out of E Pakistan, now Bangladesh.

5. mountains are losing ancient glaciers RAPIDLY, 90% ice and snow is GONE FOREVER, now they are HOT and UNBEAR-ABLE, and DIRTY-DUSTY WINDS, are BLOWING ALL AROUND THE MOUNTAINS.

Second, environment is responsibility of everyone. i dont like sonia and sheila..same as you. But how much plastic, paper, electricity, and water consumption you stopped wasting. as long as you keep on using them without limit...even got cannot do anything about greenery.

So it is all down to 2 person. What about yourself,Who urinates and shits where ever you like. Throw rubbish where ever you like, spit where ever you like destroy every thing that comes your way. Does sonia-sheila takes rubbish from your hands and throw it in the rivers or even ask you to do so. Blame every one except yourself. You are as much to blame as any other citizen of India.
