You can just do a search for Deepak Rao and you will see that what great sacrifice this person has made for the Indian forces and compare it to Dhoni and Bindra and you will know.

I'm amazed! I did just that and had no idea who Rao was until now. Why is he being given a Major rank when the two 'sporting' clowns are being given a Lt Col rank by the Indian Army? C'mon the man has even got a World Peace Award! If cricket is the religion of India, so be it but we mustn't forget that the people who keep us safe enough to pray to these demi-gods of cricket are not cricketeers! Let us change this mindset that has crept up or I daresay our children will grow up worshipping such sportsmen instead of the true heroes of our great nation.

Agreed.. they will not be able to stand on the border for one day.. forget standing on border they will not be able to drill for 5 days...
Stand in the middle of a Cricket pitch in front of 50000 live audience .. you will get the answer !!
Btw, vast majority of soldiers across the world are wearing the uniform to earn a livelyhood for their family, not for protecting you, me and every manmohans, advanis and obamas of the world...

A soldier is an individual who puts country before self gain. Our cricketers put IPL and other private leagues before country and also work in petty commercials to earn money. Do they deserve to rub shoulders with a combat specialist??

Guys.....you need to understand the policy and the sentiments behind the entire approach to confer the honarary rank. He is not expected to be a soldier since he is not trained and doesnt have the leadership qualities and tactical acument required to lead men into battle. Secondly they have been given a honarary rank to ack their contribution in the field of sports. They are not going to rub shoulders with the brave jawans of this country. Last but not the least for Only truth.....you seem to know nothing about either professions hence please reserve your comments.....

Why rank in the army. Give him padma Vibhushan.. who is saying no. But army has to be the epitome of sacrifice and ability neither of which these guys possess
