I always wonder why Khorana, Chandrasekhar and many other Indian born scientists were so influenced by western culture that they married westerners, named children with non-Indian names and so on.

Why so much aversion or allergy to something that is being Indian or to some extent Hind-u rel i gion.

I am not criticizing Dr. Khorana for his choices, that was his personal opinion. However I see trend with many notable scientists including Venky Ramakrishnan (Nobel for Ribosomes) and many other scientists in US who are famous in their fields.

What is wrong in proudly saying I am from India and naming children with Indian names and whats wrong in saying I live Indian classical music, Indian vedic philosophy.

Because Khorana is NOT narrow minded like you. Why can not he be citizen of the world? After all, science is universal! Do you mean that Indians should not name their children with Christian names? What happens to the millions of Christians who live in India? I follow Hindu religion too but I have no problem whatever people want to do with their lives.

this is not narrow mindedness at all..this is pbbly bcause Indians have very low self esteem & are self haters. The Indian education system was created to produce colonials and self hating Indians..this is one reason we find India full of self flagellating Arundhati Roys, Teestas, Mahesh Bhatts, Sharmila Tagores, etc.

You are right, none of our business. Khorana was not recognized by India, neither was he given a job when he tried to settle in India. After winning the Nobel, India wanted to honor him, he basically said no. He married a Swiss woman. That is his life. In India, people like Rafool Gandhi is a big hero.

You are right.Same with SubhashChandra Bose.I was also surprised to note that.Only thing came to my mind was that during those days there were very few indians and hence they married to keep themselves invloved in social activities and with local peoples. Even though that is also sign of hiding inferiority complex. I don't know whther that is true.My 2 cents.

On the similar subject, I always wonder if plants can feel like Jagdish Chandra Bose proved, do they feel and absorb human emotions (like humans do), esp. that of the person who nurtures them? If so, what do they absorb, all emotions that the person goes through in their life? (For example, a child absorbs parents' emotions). For the plant the person that nurtures it, is its parent. So, what happens if the person is say feeling an emotion like Depression, Angry or Elation etc., on a day before he cuts a fruit of that plant. What happens? Does the fruit if consumed pass on that emotional value? Theoretically it must. But does it, really?

Plants do not have a nervous system to 'feel' emotions, pain, etc. Animals do, that is why one should not eat animals- bad karma and bad health will be the result.
