Bharat Ratna for India's Bhupen da which has been long overdue...he should have got it long back...but it's better late than never even though posthumously...not only because he was a musician...but because of national integration...because he was a symbol of unity for the Indian nation...i am saying this even though i am not an Assamese
Its sad, India is loosing great personalities very frequently, the last being Gazal Singer Jagjit. Ofcourse, its foolish to expect people to live for ever, as it seems selfish. Bhupenji was a very different composer and singer compared to contemporary singers. He introduced Assamese Music in to films and got it recognised. If I am not wrong, he composed Music for the great hit and controversial movie Sil Sila where the song Deka Ek Khab sung mellifluously by Kishore and Lata which is a hit even today amongst film lovers.
My only feeling is let the current day musicians and music composers take a leaf out from these legends and come out with indian traditional music and not ape western deafening drum beats.
