Political Renaissance of Bengal
by SWAPAN SARKAR on May 21, 2011 02:26 AM  | Hide replies

The people of Bengal feel the freedom of expression when Mamata Banerjee took her oath of office today after dismantling the stronghold of CPIM with people mandate. May the bengal come up and hold thy head in courage and work for the bright future of the state. This opportunity came in lieu of many young lives. May God bless and shine West bengal

Mamata INC won 48 % of the votes polled;
by piri on May 20, 2011 11:27 PM

the CPM led left front won 42 %.

But Mamata INC won 77 % of the seats and the left won just 21 % of the seats !

48:42 proportion of the votes has led to 77:21 proportion of the seats !

That is 'First-past-the-post' system for you !

One day after the left govt. resigned,
by piri on May 20, 2011 11:20 PM  | Hide replies

TMC workers turned up at police stations with thousands of small arms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition and country bombs.

They told the police that these arms were taken from the party offices of the CPM !

Sections of the Bengali media featured this 'news' prominently.

When countered on this matter by Arnab Goswami on "Times Now" channel, a CPM MP had this to say :

It must be for the first time anywhere in the world that unarmed members of a group raided the offices of 'armed' workers of another party, confiscated deadly weapons in the thousands from these 'armed' workers and took them away forcefully !!

Arnab Goswami and the TMC leader in the talk show, stumped for an answer, evaded this 'mystery' and went on to divert the topic !

Please check the Bengali media for news on this (all sections).

You will see that a much bigger section emphatically states that the arms were sourced from Maoist outlaws by their close associates - the TMC workers !!

That makes immensely more sense, does it not ?

For 34 years CPIM was blaming centre, and making the coffers empty, both for money and knowledge. What can be worser, it is still worth a try, atleast there is hope
