survival need for INC
by Ramesh on May 13, 2011 06:42 AM  | Hide replies

INC coloured by the vision of a narrow vision is not thinking long term. The UP CM has no obvious successor, the polity of BSP itself is more of one off movement in nature and may not be able to consolidate into a long term political party structure. The institutional wherewithals appear to be lacking for such long term existence.

INC itself is in a survival mode due to its hopeless dependence on dynasty led coterie. And in process is losing its capability to broker political power with vast and diverse constituencies in rural India.

Hopefully MMS will be able to think long term, avoid the misguided attack on constituency which sympathizes with BSP leadership and finds ways for political reconciliation, thereby get inroads into UP via alliances as was done by BJP in Bihar, and done by INC in West Bengal.

Such an approach would need sidelining the political dynasty from UP. This necessity to win over UP has become a survival need for INC itself. Failing which, a Left led third front is likely to emerge and become the new Labour party, which may eventually eclipse Liberal party ethos of Congress.

If INC is able to sideline dynasty and is able to reconcile with BSP, the emergence of Third front would be ruled out.

Since Leftists have been traditionally pro-China, and anti-US, the kind of labour party culture which could emerge in India would have serious impact on Indian security structure due to weak consensus on foreign policy issues.

The antics of dynastic coterie may become a serious security risk for India in long run. Worse, a splendid opportunity to obtain genuine political reconciliation for Indian development from bottom up, which in manner of speak Bijli-Sadak-Paani ethos really represents would be destroyed by confrontational politics.

The deal is about perceptions of the constituency, not the leadership.

There is no scope for Reindeer kind of gift laden politics here. The UP train will not come on platform 12 (Barah) but platform 36 (Chattis).

Dyansty scions serving as goody goody Barahsingha of ole English ways will not do. The need is for serious politics, founded on truth, which takes cognizance of good work done, notes the shortcomings, and seeks ways to chug forward.

Since a dyanstic party itself is a security risk, undermining the republican spirit of the nation, it is not really surprising that it spawns other security risks in our society by thoughtless polity fueled by ambitions.

If INC is unable to shake off dynasty, people hopefully would prefer Left, even if it is pro-China and anti-US. For they would even then be less of a security risk to India.
