India did not attack the country Sri Lanka but killed and raped innocent Tamil population there in the name of Peace Keeping Force. We are bullies of weeker, never able to stand up to Porki and Chinese intrusion.

Japan has a large standing army. It is not allowed to develop or keep nuclear weapons under the treaty of Versailles of 1945. But the country has a large army with very advanced defence hardware.

by ram on May 12, 2011 11:50 AM  | Hide replies

pls reduce the fund allocated to indian army!
in the modern world the chances for wars are very less! In hyderabad military acadamy i can see so many soldiers will do useless jobs in the name of military!the whole day the will cut grass only.but for grass cutting they will have ration shops for subsidised grocery.subsidised licker bottles.free foods.

With an army, 2nd only to China in size, we have Kargils and the like. One side we have Pakis creeping in through every hole they can find. China pose a threat on the other side. While you sit around scratching your butt, our soldiers are looking after our borders. So don't belittle them please.

WHT'S THE MORAL OF THE STORY????
by Abhi on May 12, 2011 11:46 AM  | Hide replies

The title says"these nations do not have an army".In case of palau, grenada and marshall islands america provides support. In case of nauru and solomon islands australia and newzealand provides protection. For attacking vatican, one has to overpower italy.....so what does rediff want to say???do not spend money on army?or have a treaty with paskistan and US to protect us???The title is misleading the readers to believe that these nations live in absolute bliss and peace and we are fools to have an army

Great Policy if army is abolished !!
by Aditya Venkat on May 12, 2011 11:41 AM

The common factor among all these nations is that :
1. They have no hostile neighbours (read they are nowhere close to any Islamic nation/masses to fear a takeover of their land and culture),
2. They all have some sort of defence agreement or pact with the U.S. or other nations, near it
India is unfortunate that it has to expend a lot of its budget on its military, and that too a very corrupt defence force. Thankfully, we are better off than Pakistan, where the army is an authority in itself, above the constitution.

Arun: Is this is a joke? The Indian Army has ensured we won all the wars against our foes Pakistan, besides ensuring independence for Bangladesh. The who world talks of India being a super power. Looks like you are like that frog in the pond, with no access to the outside world

All the money on malitary is gonna wasted.
by indian soldier on May 12, 2011 10:36 AM  | Hide replies

Right now we are spending billions on arms because of pak, china. but other eurpean and asian country are cutting on arms. they are spendin on infrastructure and innovation.
they know economic war is biggest. whoever win, can buy arms anytime.
thats why china is spending most of money on infrastructure, little on army. they know with econmic muscle they will conqure the world.
In india people are dreaming. they want best road, train, bus and good traffic but dont want to spend money and effort for this. they hope few hundred lezy govt employee to do this. keep dreaming.
