formula for success
by Ramesh on May 12, 2011 05:48 AM

through a trilateral cooperative framework.
----------------

Dr DSouza has brilliantly outlined the formula for success. Peace in Afghanistan can come about only on the foundation of Indo-Pak reconciliation.

He has observed with concern the plummeting US-Pak relationship. Traditionally US had to be a go-between India and Pakistan, now the trilateral ties with India may be helping US-Pak linkages.

INDIAN PRESENCE WILL CHECK KIYANI'S FREE RUN WITH TALIBAN
by damodaran mohan on May 11, 2011 05:20 PM

The main question is whether India is clear about its role and the security needs in Afghanistan vis-a-vis other players like Pakistan and U.S. For that India has to have proper clarity the way it would like to deal with Pakistan not just in the context of Af'gnstn but in the overall Indo-Pak context. And the latter part at least in India no one knows for sure what MMS-Sonia duo's thinking is. If any thing, most of the people in India are simply disappointed the way the duo soft paddle Pak intransigence in the name of not hurting the civilian govt. there. When will MMS make a reluctant U.S. understand that India’s presence in Af’gnstn by itself will be enough to check on Kiyani having a free run with the Taliban there. And for that India must make its presence felt there from a position of strength rather than be present there like some unwanted missionaries on charity. If MMs cannot achieve that , it is better he pulls out all the Indians rather than waste Indian resources and risk their lives.

Soft power is an oxymoron
by Sanjeev Singh on May 11, 2011 05:02 PM

Soft power is an oxymoron word coined by hypocrates to fool..and to justify the weakness of buracrtas turned PM..who are more loyal to rule books than the people. To succeed one needs to have a very sound defence mechanism to nail any attack on India -becuase in the process of being soft power, India is exposing her vulnerability -today we have become the soft targets of terrorists..they knew that they will be behind bars, money will be spent to keep them alive, Human right and other intellignetsia will ensure that they are well taken care and some day their master mind will act another IC814 to release them..Our track record is pathetic and I am with the view of our beloved president Dr Kalam-Power respects power..Let's accept the fact India has two strongest PM- Indira and Vajpayee and two weakest PM-Ik Gujral and manmohan singh - who harmed more than the good by thier myopic, romanticism ...there are two common things -both were drawing room polticians (no mass base) and were born in Pakistan...
