Belgaum, which has a sizeable Marathi population,
by sagar on Mar 12, 2011 09:37 AM  | Hide replies

The Mahajan Commission in its report stated that Belgaum, which has a sizeable Marathi population, is a part of Karnataka but Maharashtra has repeatedly staked its claim to the region with the case still pending in Supreme Court. what does this mean. mahajan accepted that belgaum has sizeable marathi population, still that region merged with karnatka by injdustice, that means the formula of formation of states on the basis of language has been ignored and biased decision was taken by mahajan and given wrong justice to people of belgaum region. if justice prevails in india, they will have to give fair justice or else marathis will lose trust in democracy. what is the basis for formation of karanataka then if language is ignored.

Belgavi is surrounded by kannada speaking regions which is why mahajan integrated with karnataka. If yur logic is applied, then mumbai should not be in maharashtra.

DIVERT ATTENTION
by Siul Azuosd on Mar 12, 2011 09:11 AM  | Hide replies

Yeddu want to divert the attention of the people by talking about Belgaum. He is the most corrupt CM and somehow wants to hold on to his chair. BJP leaders have no powers to shunt him as they know it well that this state woulk go out of their hands if they throw Yeddu out. They only talk about corruption of Congress and divert the attention of the People of India. How long will they continue like this?

Good going,Yeddy...BJP is national party and should integrate the nation...Shameless decaying SS will be a non-entity in few years with the onslaught of MNS..MNS is future of Maharastra..

PS:I respect SS and Balasaheb for saving Hindus in 1993 riots, but now he became insane by handing over reins of SS to UT..

Every side has its claim and politicians are good in that.Does Yeddi come to Belgav other than showing that he owns it?The matter is in court and by kannadigization of Belgav, Karnataka govt is showing that it does not respect Indian constitution..leave peoples will at gods grace.

Hope we get similar support to save our lovely state from being separated

Also Maharashtra should stop being so adamant on it....its been like 6 decades and still fighting on it.....it should respect its neighboring states

So be it.
by Devdutt Kulkarni on Mar 12, 2011 05:31 AM  | Hide replies

I am a Maharashtrian with relatives in Belgaum and I am okay with Belgaum being in Karnataka. No Indian needs a passport to visit Belgaum. Whatever be the merits of the arguments on both sides, its time to put the issue to rest. This issue probably plagues border regions of all states where there is a population overlap from both sides. If everyone demands a redraw of the borders, India will forever be in strife, not to mention the impossibility of the task of drawing borders that will please everyone. Having said that, it behooves upon the majority community to treat the linguistic minority community with respect, dignity and equal rights. Let there not be even a whiff of discrimination. That's the only way to assimilate and make the minority community and integral part in the growth and development of the state. JAI HIND.

Compared to what Marathis did to Kannadiga/shetty hotel owners in 1970s,Belgaum issue is nothing.People are easy going in Karnataka,so it is better to adjust with them than giving a chance to politicians to play politics over this issue...

dear kulkarni, you can still go ahead and do national integration by marrying all your kiths & kins with muslims,SC/ST, parsis, sikh, jain, christian, adivasi of andman, assamese, meghalian. there is no point in maintaining this discriminiation.
