Please read the complete judgement, investigation done and understand the thought process involved first before writing any comments. I don't think that points from the judgment are well captured here by the writer.
We should give credit to Judges, Doctors, Lawyers and even petitioner involved in this case for their integrity, right intentions, thorough investigation and thought process.
These are all far reaching judgments which requires deep thought process and future impact consideration. Their decision is not unilateral.
The SC has involved all parties related to it, considered patient current condition as well as 37 years of medical history, has discussed in details pros and cons related to euthanasia(active and passive both) from other cases in India as well as from abroad, present rules in other countries on euthanasia.
The judgment is well justified. If you are doubting the judgment then you are doubting spirit of every one involved in this case including hospital and staff who is taking care of her selflessly from past 37 years.
KEM staff might think that they are doing a great humanitarian work by somehow keeping her alive. Though she is out of her senses. But little do they realize that they are basically entrapping her soul in a body which has expired and is of no good to her. Had they allowed nature to take its course, she would have gone by now, and may have reincarnated into a healthy body. Death is not necessarily a bad thing. Infact its necessary to sustainable ecosystems on Planet Earth and we should avoid tampering with it.
it was disappointing to note two individual in judiciary said no to mercy killing. a person who cant speak of her pain and uncomfort are being sort of tortured by the doctors and nurses in the name of caring!. it is true she is taken care of but if aruna was to speak she could have cursed the system that had kept her alive. does any one ask any animals before they are butchered about its pain?
Don't forget if the new Euthabasia rule comes up? what's proff it is not misused? in fact our country is filled my corrupt politicians, Poverty, theivies, betrayers etc..., I am really pitty on her, but at the sametime we should think of consequences (esocially in the emerging countries).
Her wrists are twisted inward, teeth decayed and she can only be given mashed food on which she survives, Virani had said, adding that Aruna is in a persistent vegetative state, her brain is virtually dead and she is oblivious to the outside world.
victim is suffering for 37 years and the perpetrator was punished for 7 years in jail. excellent judiciary, no wonder so many rapes in India everyday. this country will never....
We should not forget that in a country like India Euthanasia can be seriously misused...for example people may get other people killed(old people) for property.
However like death is given for rarest of rare crimes, Euthanasia should be allowed for rarest of rare cases. Aruna's case is definitely one!
