Sign Petition for Sagarika Ghose Resignation
by saggy sucks on Mar 04, 2011 07:16 AM  | Hide replies

Sign Petition for Sagarika Ghose Resignation - Deputy editor of a leading news channel is expected to behave in unbiased & impartial manner. However, the demeanor exhibited by Sagarika Ghose is disgusting. She openly flays largest opposition party in India and uses derogatory language while interacting on public forums. Google Sagarika Ghose Case Study and sign the petition available there to ask for her resignation.

Sagarika and Karan Thapar are two of the most useless interviewers/anchors.
They should learn the art of interviewing from some of the foreign channels.
They go on shouting, interupting,threatening,
condemning, confusing, changing subject, etc and do not allow the person being interviewed to complete his/her answer. If they don't get to hear what they like, they will again and again bombard him/her with other nonsense.Their only qualification is that they can speak good English and they show off.Watching their interviews one likes to reach for the remote.
Modi and Ram Jethmalani told them to behave themselves and walked out of the interview.

Digital Photography
by DL Narayan on Mar 03, 2011 07:21 PM  | Hide replies

There are many uninformed comments about digital photography. I am an avid phtographer and have used both formats.
Film photography required a lot of skill and the skills are acquired after spending a lot of time and money. The results of your effort can be marred by poor processing. Negatives are difficult to preserve for a long period of time.
Digital has made it a lot simpler; instead of putting in effort in selecting the right speed and aperture and on focussing correctly, one can just focus on the composition and other creative aspects and leave the mechanical stuff for the camera. Film/money is not a limitation and one can shoot hundreds of pictures everyday to improve one's photographic skills.
Digital cameras come in many formats and the high end cameras can come close in terms of quality when compared with film cameras.
Lastly, one can easily correct errors committed while shooting with post-production techniques.
Technology has made films obsolete. It has made old skills obsolete and requires new skills like Photoshop, etc. While nostalgia romanticises the past, it should never cloud one's judgement.

No no we have so many to look at like first one should be Moderator from Rediff. for the leadership quality to offer the platform to other community to abuse majority community and if majority community responses than block their messages.

Secondly our Overly Educated and Overly Secular Media persons like Ragdeep, Burqabutt, Nagrikabog and so many others for saving the minority community. Other wise how they can survive. But at the same time their mouth get sealed with the Permanent Sealant if majority of India get abused or getting extinct in neighboring countries.

Homai Vyarawalla Photgraphs should be in national archive and classed as national treasures.
They portray an irreplaceable history.
They should be preserved.

Just a couple of comments to make:
1. Photographs should be made accessible on a website; in this digital age, there is no need to preserve them.
2. In India, Hindus do not get any preferential treatment, because they are a divided lot, state-wise, caste wise, etc. India is a land of minorities and homogenous minorities are the real majority, unlike the hindus who place their sub-identities above their Hindu identity. Anyway, what matters in secular India is the kind of pressure any group can place on the Government more than anything else.

It is my humble opinion that what matters is the deeds and not the looks. And when deeds are the yardstick, we do not have anyone like Mahatma Gandhi but we do have people like Manmohan Singh, Chidambaram and Nitish Kumar who are as good as any politician from the past.If it comes to purely looks then Rahul Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh, Omar Abdullah, Sachin Pilot are no less photogenic then the politicians of yore.

Oldis gold
by mallaiah anchoori on Mar 03, 2011 03:33 PM  | Hide replies

"Old is gold";so is the old photography- especially the black & white photography which are worth life time presentation. The naturalism reflected in them is abjectly lacking in the colour photography.I still enjoy seeing my childhood photos clicked in black & white. The satisfaction & solace that I get by looking at such photographs of my family & children we had around forty years back @ Re 1/each those days in the Industrial Exhibition stalls ,is just not possible even with thousands of digital colour photos that I have these days. "Abundance like want ruins" Easy accessibility of any thing makes it cheaper.Photography was a luxury in those days & it aptly retained all the preservatives it deserved. With all the advancement the technology brought in & the concomitant modernisation of the life style, one's heart always craves for the old.Precisely for this reason, the writes makes sweet reminiscence of the episode of her eating at the beach along with her consort on their wedding day.It is an undeniable fact that the past "is always better than the present"This could be owing to the diminishing values in the people's lives & their life styles. It is not Mumbai alone, every city lost its old fervour & freshness which just, unfortunately remain as sweet memories. That way ,Mumbai is still better than many of

Yes, Only true vision can only be captured on film.
Digital is killing the quality of imaging,
Digital pictures will not be viewable in 40 years time.
Since the technology would have moved on there will be no machines to read digital images of 40years back.
Negatives at least will survive for at least 200 year or more if stored properly and there will always be a chemist who will be quite capable of and willing to prepare chemicals for the development of negatives.
If the crunch comes then negatives can be scanned even after 40 years to the technology of the time.
where as a DVD will not be readable in 40 years time no one will sit down and redesign a DVD player that will be compatible with technology of the days gone by.
Times would have moved on.
First we had CDs, then came DVD and now we have Blueray.
What next, and will it be compatible backwards and if it does then for how long.
Try reading your windows 3 files in windows 7. you will need some kind of conversion.
And If you have a crucial file saved on a 51/2floppy disk see if you can find a reader to read it.
PC don't come with floppies any more.
AT THE BEST YOUR FILES ARE LOST.
Same will happen with your photographs.
Digital is fine if you are not worried about future generations.
But like me if you are a professional photographer who maintains a library of pictures to sell, then digital is out.
I am still a hard user of my negatives and transparencies.
I will use film for as long as it is available.

Any way Medium format digital is not cheap.
A digital back for a Hasselblad is about 12,000.00 GBP =       880,289.23 INR
and that is not in easy reach for most of the photographers.

Digital photography has simplified picture taking and encouraged many to take up photography. One does not need a Hasselblad to become a creative photographer.A costly camera is no doubt more versatile than a budget camera, but most of the photographic needs are met by the less expensive cameras.

In a way you are correct. But for quality digital has a long way to go yet.
yes it has brought the photography to the masses. then why buy a digital camera any way when you have one on your phone all the time with you.
5mm is classed as amature format. but for professional work one needs at the minimum a 2X3 format.
A large format is even better.
Ever thought why your photographs don't come out as good as the professionals.
after all you are also using a camera.
Digital has made life easy in many ways.
Journalist now don't have to wait for their prints to come from the lab. Digital can be wiped around the world in seconds after it has been clicked it is instantaneous.
But for the professionals Film still rules the roost.

Homai Vyarawalla, instead of saying "None of today's leaders are worth looking at" should have at least recognised the talent of President Patil who awarded her with the Padma Vibhushan -- India's second highest civilian honour after the Bharat Ratna!

I am very disappointed. I thought Homai Vyarawalla would have phographed President Patil.

Getting national award does not mean she is photographer and her pictures will be sought after for history archives.
Give few years more and she will evaporate like a drop of water on hot plate.
She is not worth looking at through a camera lens.
