Without the mention of the status of the criminal case the report is incomplete. Why is Shirin not pursuing the case? Is she covering up some criminal act of her own by trying to garner sympathy for women. Now a days woman protection laws have become so draconian and the police thoughtless and severe towards even innocent male and his relatives throughout the nation that it is very very easy for a woman to blackmail her husband, or for that matter any man. The politicians take advantage of the situation and egg on the police for brutal third degree action to split the society into male and female and garner female votes in the process.

This is another perspective, though will hurt this lady , but is a fact in our society.

Yes some women drive husbands to desperation, just yesterday I saw a case on TV (Kiran Bedi's adalat), the girl has been habitually taunting her husband of being impotent.

earlier..it was tilted on one side (male)..now the laws are fully tilted towards the other (females).... unless the law is balanced, attrocities in one form or the other will continue. When the law allows police to act on the complaint of women wihtout even proof, what justice is that ?? not only the man, even the in-laws are held woithout proof...
I personally feel that parents especially mothers need to discuss with children and express concern about social evils against women. As children spend more time with mother in their childhood, a mother's deep concerns in this regard will definitely have a great impact/good perception on women among male children when they become adult.
Rediff - please carry similar stories in the future, instead of the nonsense you usually publish.
Hats off to Shirin. To think of it the incident happened at a time when India was a slow country, so fighting the battle then was much harder than it would be today. Kudos to the mental strength of this woman.
Most of us cry and crib about the small problems we face in our daily lives - here's a woman for whom one incident altered the rest of her life. Remarkable strength of character - mother and daughter. She should start a blog and use the Social Media to reach out to the youth. It's the fastest (and the best) way to create awareness, raise funds, receive expert support on matters and to build a platform for Palash.
