makarajyothi is a celestial star appearing on sky.not manmade.makara vilakku is manmade.there are several mysteries in universe which cannot be explained by science.the arguments against it is fake and idiotic.the way of performing it explained by critics are impossible and imaginative

Matter of Faith!
by common man on Feb 01, 2011 09:15 AM

Every body in Kerala knows it. But they never say openly due to the high revenue they collecting from devotees.
Is everything is matter of faith & cannot be questioned in 21st century?
If so we are the most backward people.
If Bible says 'earth is flat' is it acceptable?(Remember Galileo punished for that)
In Kerala 'Untouchability'was a matter of faith in early 20th century.(Previously Dalits prevented from traveling in front of a temple due to the matter of faith.)
Actually Sabarimala is a temple accepts devotees without any religion/caste barrier.
It is a place of Hindu-Muslim friendship.
So if TDB openly accepts the 'man made jyothi' nothing going to happen except saving of some valuable human life.

Makara Jyoti & Makara Vilakku
by sanath on Feb 01, 2011 09:01 AM

Makara Jyoti (light) is the celestial star Sirius, which is visible from Ponnabalamedu, and the tribals perfom deeparadhana to the star, which has been known as Makara Vilakku (lamp). Down the lane, ppl have confused both with each other, and TDB also decided to remain silent as it brought in revenue.

Many of the pilgrims have chosen to believe what they like, and now when the actual fact is placed, they scream foul.

The sanctity of the hill shrine is unquestioned, and so is the fact that none can reach there unless he is destined to, but then to talk about the shrine on this one context is foolish.

Also it is a very bold step that the Tantri family decided to explain in detail about both, which has now forced the TDB to also issue this clarification.

how Indian courts question matters of faith. Its Makara Jyothi today. It was Ram a few years ago. Its just getting ridiculous. The courts and Govt. have no business questioning matters of faith. Just because Hindus are tolerant does not mean they can do it. If they have the guts, have them also question the beliefs of Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Jew and other faiths.

Sir, 100 people died because of someone's greed or making fool of Hindus in believing that the jyothi is heavenly. Dumbos like u are one of reasons behind such incidents.

i think what TDB did was bold and honest, and wish all other religous leaders had the courage to do the same (eg. st thomas's so called footprints in malayatoor and stuff).
reallistically this revelation by TDB shouldnt make anyone uncomfortable since it is the spiritual connotation behind the holy event thats more relevant, than the nitty gritty details.
