The "saheb" in the name "Balasaheb Thackeray" is an Arabic origin word - see wikipedia - sahib meant "friend" in Arabic, and then was used as title during Moghul times. Nowadays, due to India's centuries old tradition of assimilating and accommodating cultures, "sahab", "sahib" and "saheb" are part of daily language, even in Marathi.
The irony remains that the very source of Hindu pride in Mumbai and Maharashtra, Balasaheb Thackeray, has an Arabic word and an Urdu title, in his commonly used name.
There cannot be a greater irony in this topic.
Balasaheb has renamed every other thing to Chhatrapati Shivaji and Veermata Jijabai, but his own common name has an important Mughal and Arabic part that has not been renamed.
This would rank high on the some list of "Did You Know" or Ripley's "Believe It Or Not".
