Credit must be given to Marathas, that though they were not directly involved, they came prepared to fight against foreign intrusion. Result was nobody dared to intervene again for next 40 years, even Ahamad Shah Abdali did not return to Delhi but thought it best to go back to his own place.

The camel-mounted gun

Perhaps you have seen the news article in the Times of India dt. 4th October 2012 , with a picture of the Mumbai police with a zamburak confiscated from some haryanvis who claim that it was in their ancestors' possession since the Battle .

The article says that it weighs 25kg and is 20.5 inches long . That would make it a camel-mounted swivel-gun . The features of the mounting are clearly seen in the picture . The muzzle is flared -- I believe for firing grape shot . Is there evidence of such ammunition being used by the afghans ?
I am trying to determine from my hunter friends what the bore of such a cannon could be and what would be the magnitude of the recoil -- for a camel to withstand it .

I believe that this zamburak brigade was the cause of the decimation of the maratha cavalry charge made by Sadashiv Rao Bhau -- which turned the battle in the afghans' favour . Is that correct ?
