Release Raymond Davis: Clinton tells Zardari
by Subhash Niyogi on Feb 17, 2011 01:28 PM

The US is learning lessons now that goes like our Indian fable 'He who has created Bhasmasur is the first one terrorized'
Pakistan as a Bhasmasur is the demonic creation of US who has showed it's fangs to them while allowing safe passage of the supply UN convoy. Now this and many more to come will send alarms after alarms till they reach US's jugular.
India over decades was crying at the evil deeds of terrorism but was never heard till 9/11 when the whining alarm was heard by the whole world.

Immunity
by sachchidanand dhar on Feb 16, 2011 07:13 AM

Quite a few years back I had read a report in Readers' Digest that many male Family memebers of Middle Eastern Diplomats in U.S.A. were involved in molestation and rape of American women. It had become a trend. All the perpetrators of the crime were claiming diplomatic immunity and getting away.

As far as imagined scenario of a diplomat killing the political head of a host country, tit for tat is the only principle that delivers results.

This is not about pakistan
by arthos parthos on Feb 14, 2011 01:36 PM

As much as I am against Pakistan and what it stands for and the complexes it has vis-a-vis India and the World, in this case if we were to park our emotions aside, clearly US is in the wrong here. Whatever be the diplomatic immunity, if such an event happens, the perpetrator has to be at the mercy of the law of the land. If such an event had happened in India, I would be ashamed if my country were to let the accused walk out in the guise of diplomatic immunity. This issue is truly not about Pakistan.

Pakisthan and the enouragement of its activities have had the support of the US including funding. If US feeels it can get away with any thing , it has to think twice. Pakisthan , despite any thing , is a ssoverign state and hence is not obliged to accept US dictum in matters of crime perpetrated by its citizen . Now if Davis has acted in self defense than let the courts in Pakisthan decide. The bullying tactics will not work.

What Are The Facts And Law ?

Does any believe that if a Russian Ambassador during State Dinner picks up the Stake knife and butchers US President, then US will escort his motorcade to the Airport so he can take the next flight home just because he has a piece of paper?

Davis has no immunity. He was not on official biz at the time. Grave crimes are specifically excepted in the'immunity doctrine'.The issue of immunity is before the Pakistani courts and US should respect and abide by the laws of other countries. There is separation of powers in Pakistan and its President cannot interfere in the court business, just as Pres.Obama cannot stop court challenges to Obamacare.

Davis had several different face masks in his car,70 bullets, unlicensed guns, maps, GPS device, binoculars, telescopes and a fake license plate on his car.He was on a killing mission but somehow screwed up and never got to his destination.

These two murdered individuals were riding motorcycles. At a red light they pulled ahead of Davis.Davis shot both, one on the back of the head. As they reeled down,he fired seven more bullets.
Their guns were still strapped to their belts. There is no evidence they made any threats to Davis. Its possible that Davis might have been hallucinating, under the influence of drugs which are plentiful there.

If US has any sense of justice,it should waive any 'immunity' f

If US has any sense of justice, it should waive any immunity or not to fuss about it and must provide at the earliest and in all fairness an ethical, competent Pakistani criminal defense attorney who can properly defend Davis in the court on the issue of immunity as well as on his proclaimed 'self defense'.

A Pakistani attorney can talk and find witnesses who might have seen motorcyclists make gestures or threats to Davis, stalking or cutting in and out and around Davis.

If US foolishly fails to provide a counsel to Davis, then Pakistan has the obligation to appoint a competent, ethical, reputable, criminal defense counsel.Davis case is not a lost case and is winnable and he may very well be innocent. To punish an innocent man would be a total travesty of justice. If motocyclists threatened Davis, they asked for it,got what they deserved and Davis must go free.

Pakistan must provide a translator to Davis since he cannot speak Urdu and fully protect him and his rights.

If Davis is convicted in the court and all appeals fail, then USA can always swap its alleged criminal with 3-4 useless Pakistani,Al-Qaida,Talibans prisoners seving life sentences in US jails, so that everyone gets something and shuts up,instead of getting on the case of President Zardari.

Marked Man
by Jehan Mir on Feb 09, 2011 12:14 AM  | Hide replies

Davis faces a danger of getting killed by vigilante and by USA. It appears Davis was on a secret,anti-State (Pakistan) mission which USA does not want Pakistan to know as well as USA contacts that Davis was going to visit that fateful afternoon with his several different face-masks, GPS, maps ,binuculars ,telescopes,70 bullets, unregistered guns etc. Thats why USA is panicky and wants Davis back in a hurry before he spills the beans. USA won't hesitate to kill Davis,if fast talking fails.
